A third-period comeback fell short for the Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team, which lost a road game in Pequot Lakes by the score of 4-3 Thursday.

The Patriots' Alex Palm scored the winning goal with 1:54 remaining in regulation, after the Lakers fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the final period.

Mariah Reed put Pequot Lakes up 1-0 in the first period, which was followed by a tally by Kim Jessen to start the third.

But DL senior forward Callie Johnson found the back of the net on an assist by Alexis Fritz 2:16 into the period, before the Pats went back up 3-1 on a score by Megan Snyder.

The Lakers (1-13) stormed back on an unassisted effort by Sam Benson and the tying effort by Sydney Haman on the assist by Johnson.

Pequot Lakes (7-6) outshot the Lakers by a 30-24 margin, while DL goalie Haileigh Wenger had 26 stops. Patriot goalie Kat Jensen had 21 saves on the night.

The Lakers will travel to Morris (1-10) Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start, before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek (4-10) Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. start.
