DL Wrestling - Jackson wins weight class

Detroit Lakes sophomore Parker Jackson lead a Detroit Lakes wrestling contingent to a sixth-place finish in the Perham Invite Saturday.

Jackson, who is ranked eighth in Class 2A at 145 pounds, won his division after pinning Moorhead's Joseph Grove in the title match.

His road to gold included a pin on Jeremy Miller of Walker/H-A/Nevis and a 12-4 major decision on New London-Spicer's Cameron Steffen in the semifinals.

The victory lifts Jackson's record to 17-1 on the season.

DL had three third-place finishers, a pair of fourth-places, a fifth and two sixth-places.

Sophomore Nate Francis won his third-place match over Jacob Guehna of Perham by pin, while senior Zach Baker took an 11-4 decision over Nik Borchert of Mille Lacs in the bronze match.

Freshman heavyweight James Huwe also took third, by posting a 5-0 decision on New London-Spicer's Rick Berry.

Moorhead won the team title with 209.5 points, while the Lakers collected a total of 112 points.

The Laker junior varsity was also in action against Park Rapids Tuesday.

Match winners included Jacob Hanson, Dylan Skoda, Tyler Lacross, Cory Puttbrese, Bradon Ortloff, Jordan Mackner and Bryant Swiers.
