Manke to be an assistant coach in football All-Star contest

Former Detroit Lakes head football coach, 2012 DLHS Hall of Honor inductee and Activity Director Rick Manke will be back on the sidelines Monday, Jan. 21, after being selected to be an assistant coach for the USA Freedom Bowl, which is the Division II Senior All-Star Game.

USA Freedom Bowl is set to be played at Beach Sportsplex, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Rated third by the national broadcast and print media behind the Senior Bowl and East - West Shrine Game, the USA Freedom Bowl offers standout seniors from small colleges the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities in front of pro scouts, NFL, CFL and IFL agents while providing top-flight football entertainment for local fans.

Delaware State quarterback Nick Elko, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year along with Ross Dausin, the 6-6, 223-pound Colorado State University -Pueblo, signal caller who was A unanimous selection as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year have accepted invitations to participate in the four-day, three-night event from January 18 through 21, 2012.

He completed his Hornet career ranked second in team history in passing yards (5,754) and completions (539), and third in touchdown passes (37).

In three seasons, Dausin's career record as a starter at CSU-Pueblo is 31-3 while setting seven CSU-Pueblo single season passing records, including total offensive yards, most touchdown passes, most passing yards, total touchdowns (rushing and passing), passing attempts, completions and completion percentage.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21.

It will be the Admirals versus the Generals in the 19th Annual USA Freedom Bowl, presented by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association and USA College Sports, Inc. continuing the tradition began in 1994 when Division II All-Stars made their debut in the Snow Bowl that was contested in the Fargo Dome.

It was followed by the Cactus Bowl from 2001 to 2011 in Kingsville, Texas.

The USA Freedom Bowl is a four-day, three-night event will feature not only outstanding Division II seniors, but also Division I and I-AA as well as NAIA standouts with no eligibility remaining in a final hurrah

Ross Fortier, former head coach at Minnesota Moorhead who created the Snow Bowl, will return to the sidelines as the head coach of the Generals.

Bill Ramseyer, an NAIA Hall of Fame coach will be at the helm of the Admirals.
