Swegarden is HOL mat champ

The United Clay Becker Badgers hosted the Heart O' Lakes Conference tournament in Hawley Jan. 26.

The HOL has been a conference tournament known for great matchups and tough wrestling, and 2013 would not disappoint.

Junior Mason Swegarden would provide the highlight reel of the day for UCB.

Swegarden was seeded second in the tournament and found himself in the finals with an eighth-ranked opponent from Perham.

Swegarden showed his dominance with an early take down, followed by a tilt to go up 4-0.

He was able to hold off Perham's Luke Sailer in the third period to win 4-2, earning the title of HOL champion.

At 106 pounds for the Badgers, Riley Byklum picked up a fourth place finish.

Brady Mann wrestled tough at 113 and fought for a fifth place finish.

Jimmy Kohler also found the podium, finishing in sixth place. Nick Wamre battled to a fifth-place finish.

Wrapping up the lineup for the Badgers, Zaine Perkins found a sixth place finish, while Jonah Lange ended the day at fifth.

Chance Lefebvre tussled his way through wrestle backs for a fourth-place finish, while Alex Lindsay prevailed in the wrestlebacks and took third.

Andy Westhoff also produced a fifth-place finish for the Badgers.
