Frazee regains winning edge

After coming off of a disappointing two-point loss at Breckenridge Tuesday night, the Frazee Lady Hornet basketball team put together a strong road-game second half for a 61-46 win over Barnesville in Heart O'Lakes Conference action Friday night.

The Lady Hornets (17-4 overall, 6-3 HOL) started out a little slow as Barnesville (11-8 overall, 2-7 HOL) took a 25-17 lead with about three minutes left in the first half.

Kennady Barlund scored six straight points to ignite Frazee as they ended first half on a 14-3 run to take a 31-28 lead, one they would never relinquish.

Frazee followed with a 10-2 run to begin the second and the Trojans never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

"We played much better defense in the second half," head coach Dave Conzemius said. "We controlled their dribble penetration much better and made them take tougher shots.

"Kennady really picked us up late in the first half and changed the momentum of the game."

Frazee was led by Alexis Tappe with 17 points. She also added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Barlund continued her consistent play as of late with 12 points and five rebounds. Katie McCorquodale had 10 points, five assists and three steals, Josi Tappe had nine points and Ashley Bachmann had a solid game with eight points and nine rebounds.

Sydney Boom led Barnesville with 17 points.

"This was an important game for us to be able to bounce back from the Breckenridge game," Conzemius added. "It was a great team effort with all the girls that played contributing to the win. We will need this type of team effort down the stretch as we have some difficult games remaining on our schedule."

Frazee's game with Crookston scheduled for Monday night was postponed now for a second time.

The Lady Hornets are back in action Thursday night in Perham. Their next home game is next Tuesday against conference and section leader Hawley.
