Thielen named Maverick’s Offensive MVP

Detroit Lakes graduate Adam Thielen was honored by the Minnesota State University Mankato football team for his stellar play this past season.

A senior wide out, Thielen was named MSU’s Offensive MVP.

Thielen served as the Mavericks leading pass threat last season as he led the team with 1,176 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches.

Thielen was also named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week and First Team All-NSIC South Division.

Summer soccer registration ongoing

The registration for summer soccer is now open for ages 8-19 years old. To register online, go to

There will be new try-on dates for the Away soccer uniforms Sunday-Monday, March 10-11 in the Detroit Lakes Middle School Commons area. Sunday will be from 3-4 p.m. and Monday from 4-6 p.m.

Online registration and uniform ordering must be completed by April 10. Once teams are filled, they will be closed out.

Dugger in Pre-Nationals

Minnesota State University Moorhead divers Shayna Dugger and Kelsey Jandro competed at the pre-qualifying round of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, which were held Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala.

Neither Dragon athlete advance to the finals but both had solid performances during Tuesday’s competition.

In the 3-meter diving, Dugger, who is a Detroit Lakes native, finished 20th at 218.10, while Jandro was tied for 26th at 210.55.

In the 1-meter diving, Dugger placed 23rd with a score of 220.35, the best score she has recorded at a national meet. Jandro was 28th with a score of 207.25, also the best mark she has recorded at nationals.

Both divers had outstanding seasons for MSUM. Jandro had eight event wins during the year, while Dugger had four wins and also earned All-NSIC honors in 3-meter diving in February. Jandro was a two-time NSIC Diver of the Week while Dugger also earned the honor once during the season.
