Lake Park-Audubon boys golf preview
Good numbers and an improving group of players have the Lake Park-Audubon boys’ golf team on the upswing for the 2013 season.
The Raiders have 24 golfers out in grades 7-12 and the hope for the team is to keep climbing up the ranks of the Pine to Prairie Conference.
“All returning starters from last year have shown great growth and have been standout stars in other extra-curricular activities already this year,” said LP-A head coach Cole Wixo.
“I think that will help boost their confidence and drive them to be successful this season.”
The Raiders will be depending on sophomores Chris Donovan, Chase Wiedmann and Sam Whitehead, along with the leadership of LP-A’s lone senior, Ben Bjekken to guide the team through the season.
Wixo also sees freshman Clay Anderson as being an important contributor, as well, since he is a “good ball striker.”
Junior Dalton Kohler was the Raiders’ top scorer last season and will be a “huge asset” this season, as well.
“He had the lowest combined average throughout the season and posted some very impressive numbers at various meets,” Wixo said.
“He just missed out on the all-conference list last year and is more determined than ever to achieve his goal of making it this year and also to (make) the state meet.”
Another junior, Charley McDunn, will also be in the mix as a varsity starter, as well.
Another sophomore who shows promise includes Wyatt Monroe.
Seventh and eighth grade numbers are up, as well, with Tony Grieve brought on to coach the junior high.
“Last year, we finished in the middle of the conference and will be looking to climb the ladder a little higher this year,” Wixo said.
“We have a lot of young talent and hopefully the boys’ hard work will pay off.”
