DL 15U preps for state in South Dakota
The Detroit Lakes 15U baseball team split four games at the SIoux Falls Summer Classic in preparation for this weekend’s state tournament in Maplewood.
DL picked up victories over Winner, South Dakota and Lincoln, Nebraska and lost to Pierre, South Dakota and Brandon Valley South Dakota.
According to head coach Steve Tucker, Blaine Henderson stayed great on the hill picking up the victory versus Winner and Tanner Brend allowed only one run and picked up the win against Lincoln on Sunday, July 15, securing a sixth place finish in the 14 team Junior Legion tournament.
“We were one of the youngest teams in the tourney and after we got the jitters out of our system in the first two games, the guys settled down and played some pretty good baseball to end the tourney,” said Tucker. “We lost a close game 8-5 on saturday; if we could have pulled that one out we would have been in the championship semifinals, so overall, I was very proud of the performance of the whole team and believe they are very prepared for the state tourney this weekend.”
Jordan Tucker went 7 for 11 and was on base 10 of 13 at bats to pace the DL offense. Henderson was 5 for 13 and Andrew Kulik went 5 for 9 and scored five runs.
Trevor Schnathorst and Logan Lund kept the offense flowing in the Sunday game driving in three runs each in the 10-2 win against Lincoln.
