Eiter accepts DL head baseball job
Terry Eiter has accepted the Detroit Lakes head baseball coaching position, pending school board approval, according to activities director Rob Nielsen on Wednesday evening.
Eiter is sliding over to the Laker dugout after a career of coaching and officiating multiple sports and running the regional officials association. He has taught at DLHS since 1992 and replaces Mike Bommersbach.
The Detroit Lakes baseball program is in need of a change of direction.
The varsity Lakers have struggled with only one winning season in the past four years (2015, 12-8).
DL beat up the Mid-State going 11-1 to win the title in 2015 but struggled losing six of seven outside the conference. In 2016, DL was 8-0 in conference play and 1-13 outside the Mid-State.
By 2017, Mid-State teams caught up. DL placed fourth in 2017 going 3-5 and 5-17 overall. The Lakers were 6-4 this past season, but 0-12 against non-conference teams.
The past three seasons, the Lakers are a combined 20-46.
