Unbeaten Patriots hand Laker boys second Mid-State loss

Junior Jordan Schommer scored 20 points and senior Zach Sjoblad added 19 to lead the unbeaten Pequot Lakes Patriots to a 70-45 Mid-State Conference victory over Detroit Lakes at home Friday night.

The Patriots built an 11-point lead by halftime up 40-29 and held the Laker offense to only 16 points in the second half.

Schommer made four of Pequot Lakes’ six three-point baskets in the game.

DL made only two shots from the arc, one each from Tanner Doppler and Logan Pratt.

Pratt was the lone Laker in double figures scoring 12 points. Doppler and Jake Bettcher added nine each.

The Lakers (2-2, 1-2) shot 9-15 (60 percent) from the line; the Patriots (3-0, 2-0) made 16 of 21 attempts (76 percent).

Cardinals take section opener

Detroit Lakes traveled to Alexandria Saturday in the first Section 8AAA game for both teams coming out on the losing end of a 59-50 contest.

The Cardinals have won the last five games between the two schools.

The lakers trailed 34-31 at halftime and managed only 19 points in the second half.

Jake Bettcher had his best game of the year scoring 18 points to lead the Lakers. He had nine points in each half. Gabe Hanninen was in double figures with 12 points. Logan Pratt scored seven but was a bigger presence on the boards pulling down 13 rebounds before fouling out of the game.

Alex junior guard Trey Hoepner led all scorers with 24 points. Justin Balcome added 14 for the Cardinals (2-2).

Detroit Lakes falls to 2-3 overall and play a second straight section game at Bemidji (2-3) Tuesday, Dec. 19.
