Fellerman hits 1,000 in win over DL girls

Aitkin senior Maggi Fellerman scored 25 points, including her career 1,000th in a 67-55 Gobbler victory over a shorthanded Detroit Lakes team in Mid-State Conference girls basketball at Aitkin Tuesday night.

DL was playing without starter Lauren Tschider and Mercedez Bellanger, but held tight in the first half trailing by only a bucket at the break 34-32.

Fellerman needed nine points to hit her milestone and did so early in the game.

Aitkin made a quick push out of halftime taking a 50-38 lead.

DL’s Lauryn Manning made two of her five second half steals and converted on both opportunities to cut the lead to single digits 50-42, but the Gobblers pulled away late.

Detroit Lakes was 12-18 (66 percent) from the line. Tschider’s absence from long range was noticeable as the Lakers made only one three-point basket by Anna Cihak. Tschider led DL with 15 points in the first matchup between the two teams.

Bre Price continued her strong play in the paint matching Fellerman’s efforts with 25 points. She scored 16 in the first half. Ellie Lunde was in double digits with 13 points, scoring 10 in the first half.

The Gobblers’ Ramsey Moe scored 20 points. She and Fellerman scored 67 percent of Aitkin’s total points.

Aitkin improved to 17-8 overall and 5-4 in the Mid-State. DL dropped to 5-20 and 2-7 in the conference.

The Lakers wrap up the regular season at home Friday, Feb. 23 against Crosby-Ironton (16-9, 6-3).
