Raiders advance in win over Hornets
No. 7 Lake Park-Audubon had three shooters in double figures to pace the Raiders to a 79-70 victory over No. 10 Frazee in the pigtail round of the Section 6A boys basketball playoffs in Audubon Tuesday night.
Leading scorer Grant Pederson continued his stellar play this season leading the Raiders with 23 points, but LP-A got some needed production elsewhere in the lineup to get the victory.
Tyler Bjerke poured in 20 points making eight of nine foul shots; Carter Raaen added 14 points.
“Bjerke played well,” said Raiders head coach Kyle Haberman. “We preached before the game that we had to attack the rim and he did that frequently. Carter had his best game of the year when we needed him.”
The Raiders led 34-28 at halftime and picked up the pace leading by as much as 17 points, but the Hornets hung around in a high-scoring second half.
Senior Chris Hughes led Frazee (2-23) scoring 21 points.
LP-A also had to deal with foul trouble losing starter Garret Frank to a fifth foul with a lot of time still on the clock.
“With Garret getting in foul trouble I thought a lot of guys stepped up in his absence,” said Haberman.
In all, eight Raiders recorded points on the scoresheet in the win
“The other thing I was impressed with is Frank fouled out with 11 minutes to play,” Haberman said. “He was mad and disappointed, but instead of moping and feeling sorry for himself, he cheered on his guys. That's what you want to see from a senior, and I'm glad the guys he was cheering for were able to make sure he gets to play another game.”
That game will be at No. 2 Pelican Rapids (16-10) Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
The Vikings and Raiders (8-18) met on March 2 with Pelican Rapids coming away with a 67-60 road victory.
The winner of No. 6 Park Christian (11-15) and No. 3 Henning (18-8) will face Thursday night’s winner at Pelican in the north subsection semifinals at Concordia College Saturday, March 10 at 12:45 p.m.
