Add another honor to Tre Jones’ growing resume.

The Apple Valley point guard was named the 2018 Minnesota Mr. Basketball on Monday night at Target Center, during the third quarter of the Timberwolves’ game against Atlanta.

Jones wasn’t in attendance — he was busy playing in the McDonald’s All-American game in Atlanta. Jones scored seven points to go with eight assists in a team-high 25 minutes to lead the West squad to a 131-128 victory.

Jones, a Duke commit, averaged 22.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists this season while leading Apple Valley to a state runner up finish in Class 4A. The Eagles advanced to four straight state tournaments with Jones as their starting point guard, winning two state titles.

Jadee Jones, Tre’s older brother an as assistant basketball coach at Apple Valley, was in attendance Wednesday to accept the award on Tre’s behalf.

Timberwolves point guard Tyus Jones, Tre’s other older brother, won the award — given annually to the state’s best senior boys basketball player — back in 2014.
