Frazee gymnasts do well in triangular meet

Frazee competed with nearly a full varsity roster in a triangular meet versus Perham and Alexandria on Dec. 18.

Tiffany Haugen competed in the all around, along with Alane Sauer, Emma Buhr, and Quincy Mickelson.

Jessica Irish performed in bars despite torn ankle ligaments, but did not enter in the other events. Her routine earned a 5.6 for eighth place.

"This was a great score considering her inability to due a squat-on and need for a spot on dismount due to her ankle injury," said Frazee head coach Amie Erickson. "We were very proud of Jessica's performance and willingness to compete. She is a very strong athlete."

Erickson said that she hopes to have Irish back full-strength by the Jan. 6th meet in Fergus Falls.

The Hornets earning a team score of 100.85 over five events.

"I am very pleased with the improvement," Erickson said.

Sauer placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 29.9. She scored a personal best 8.5 in the vault, a 7.8 on the balance beam and a 6.85 on the uneven bars.

Sauers' floor routine included a round-off back salto back salto, which scored a 6.75 to give her 11th-place in that event.

"For the next meet, Alane hopes to better execute her HS full vault, her jumps on beam, and polish her tumbling on floor," Erickson said.

Haugen competed in the all around for the first time this season and placed ninth with a score of 22.35.

"Her bar routine needs smoothing," Erickson said.

She added that it still earned her a 4.35 score for 13th place. Haugen also competed on the beam for the first time this year and scored a 4.5.

"Jumps will be an area of emphasis before the next meet," Erickson said.

She placed seventh in the all-around with a score of 24.15.

Erickson said that bars are her weakest event, but she still scored scored a 4.5 to surpass her season high of 3.2.

On beam, Buhr received a 5.8 despite two falls.

"Emma is looking forward to sticking her routine in Fergus Falls on Jan. 6th with the new elements she has added," Erickson said. Buhr scored a 6 on the floor exercise and a half-on, half-off vault scored 7.85.

Mickelson was also again able to compete all-around after an ankle injury, and scored a 23.2 to place eighth.
