The last two Mid-Am champs duel for another title

The Pine to Palm Mid-Am champions from the past two years and this season’s top two seeds Perry Piatz and Scott Uithoven will meet Sunday to either match or break the career titles mark in the division.

Piatz is one of three players holding two Mid-Am championships (2013, 2017). A win would make him the only three-time winner breaking the tie with Kent Spriggs (2014-15) and Jay Olafson (2009, 2011). Spriggs is the only back-to-back winner in the 10 years of division play, a mark Piatz could also reach.

Uithoven has reached the final in two of the past three years, runner-up to Spriggs in 2015 and winning the following year. He’s also a two-time medalist. He can join the trio with two wins by snapping Piatz’s seven-match winning streak.

Both players road to the final on Saturday ended early with Piatz defeating No. 13 Michael Melhus 5&4 and Uithoven taking out the three-seed Darren Haley 4&3.
