Gymnasts hit 150 again, take down Perham

No. 8A Perham recorded their second-best team score of the season, which shows how dominant the No. 1A Detroit Lakes gymnastics team is after defeating the Yellowjackets 150.0-143.625 Friday night at the Minnesota Flyers Gymnasium.

The Lakers have been scoring 150 or better the past two weeks and hold the top spot in Class A with an average score of more than 149, three points better than No. 2A Willmar.

JACKSON HEGG, PEYTON JERNBERG

Against Perham, DL had top marks on three of four events. Emma Disse on on beam with a score of 9.7 and on floor exercise scoring 9.75.

Peyton Jernberg was the vault champion scoring 9.7 to defeat Perham’s Jada Olsen by one-half point.

Olsen captured high marks on uneven parallel bars with a 9.6.

Three gymnasts battled for the all-around title in a tight finish led by Olsen’s 38.3. Disse was two-tenths behind at 38.1 and Jackson Hegg scored 37.3 for a bronze finish.

DL had four of the top five vaults Lexi Yliniemi (9.6), Hegg (9.5) and Disse (9.5) all in the hunt with Jernberg up top.

JUSTINE LAWRENCE

DL had five of the top six beam performances behind Disse’s win. Hegg, placed third behind Olsen scoring 9.1, followed by Justine Lawrence 9.1, Peyton Jernberg 9.0 and Lexi Ostlie 8.925.

DL loaded the scoresheet after Olsen’s win on bars. Justine Lawrence was the runner-up with a  9.5. Next was Hegg (9.35), Ellie Hultin (9.3), Disse (9.15) and Ostlie (9.0).

Lexi Yliniemi (9.45) and Hegg (9.35) were third and fourth on floor behind Disse and Olsen.

The Laker junior varsity was also victorious defeating Perham 130 - 122.15.

The DL second varsity squad will host Bemidji Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Minnesota Flyers gym. The Laker varsity team preps for Section True Team. That meet will be held at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 27 beginning at noon.
