Wrestling: Hornets finish 5th in Brainerd

The Class 1A No. 2 ranked Frazee wrestling team placed fifth in the Brainerd Tournament, as No. 4 ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City took top honors.

The Hornets were without several of their top wrestlers, while placing eight in the top seven.

Freshman Tanner Reetz won the 120-pound division with a 9-3 victory in the title bout over Little Falls’ junior Logan Kapphahn. Reetz is ranked No. 6 in Class 1A at 113.

Other top eight placers included Tanner Eischens (fifth, 106), Austin Skillings (fourth, 138), Nate Starry (fifth, 160), Calvin Streeper (eighth, 170), Kody VanDenEykel (fourth, 182), Ryan Brandt (seventh, 195) and Brandon DeGroat (seventh, heavyweight).

The Hornets will host a triangular Thursday against Little Falls and Moorhead, starting at 5 p.m.

They will host their invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. with Brainerd, Foley, Holdingford, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, Lisbon (N.D.), Minneota and Perham competing.
