Girls Basketball: Frazee wins 3-OT thriller over LP-A, but loses to DGF

The Frazee Lady Hornets hosted Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Thursday night in Heart O’Lakes conference basketball action, and fell short as they lost 65-58.

It was a close game throughout, except for on small run by D-G-F early in the second half.

With the game tied 33-33 with around 16 minutes left, one of the officials mistakenly called a foul on Taylor Tappe which sent Tappe to the bench with four fouls.

The Rebels then went on a 12-2 run to take a 10-point lead. The Lady Hornets chipped away, but were never able to get closer than three points after that.

“It was very unfortunate for us that the official messed up that call and gave the wrong number and took Taylor off the floor for us,” head coach Dave Conzemius said.

“But we still had our chances to win and had we shot a little better, we would have been able to pull out the victory.”

Frazee struggled from the three-point line, going just 2-for-19, which hurt their chances of victory.

Kennady Barlund played a strong game for the Lady Hornets, scoring a career-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds and four steals, despite not being 100 percent from an ankle sprain.

Josi Tappe added 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals and Taylor Tappe had 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals.

“Kennady was unbelievable tonight playing probably at about 75 percent, she really gutted it out,” Conzemius said.

“This was a very tough game to play, as DGF plays a lot of different girls and they play a very physical style of ball. But I am very proud of the way competed and the girls played hard until the final buzzer.”

Frazee wins three OT thriller over L-PA

One night after a tough loss to DGF, Frazee found themselves in another tough Highway 10 battle, but this time, the Lady Hornets found a way to win as they defeated Lake Park-Audubon 69-61 in three overtimes in a game played in Frazee.

The Lady Hornets came out a little flat and trailed for the majority of the game, except for a nice run to start the second half as Frazee took a 35-32 lead after trailing 30-23 at halftime.

The Raiders answered with a 14-1 run to seemingly take control of the game, but the Lady Hornets would not quit.

They cut into the deficit until Josi Tappe connected on a three-pointer with just under a minute to play, to tie the game at 50 and force overtime.

After battling to a tie in each of the first two overtimes, Frazee took control in the third overtime, as they went 8-for-10 from the free throw line to put the game away.

“We were very fortunate to be able to come away with the win against a tough LP-A team,“ Conzemius said. “We didn’t have a lot of energy to start and they made things tough for us. But our girls never give up and always believe they can win.”

Josi Tappe led the Lady Hornets with a career-high 36 points to go with seven steals, six rebounds and five assists. Hailee Oswald added 12 points, six rebounds and four steals and Taylor Tappe had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

“Josi had an incredible game and showed what she is capable of doing when she puts it all together,” Conzemius added. “But Taylor’s leadership tonight was huge for us.

“She is invaluable to this team and does so many little things for this team that lead to victories.”

Frazee now sits with a record of 8-7 with 11 regular season games to play.
