Tappe has record game for Frazee

The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels used a 16-0 first half run to take control of the game as they beat the Frazee Lady Hornets 73-58 in Heart O’Lakes conference basketball, Feb. 3 in Glyndon.

The game was back and forth early until the Rebels used their 16-0 run to take a 28-13 lead. Frazee continued to chip away the rest of the game but was never able to get closer than seven points at 54-47, halfway through the second half.

D-G-F (7-7 overall, 4-3 HOL) made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Lady Hornets (9-9 overall, 1-7 HOL).

“We had too many turnovers against their pressure defense and missed too many free throws tonight,” head coach Dave Conzemius said. “Once again, we played very hard, we just need to eliminate some mental mistakes.”

Josi Tappe led Frazee with 24 points and seven steals. Taylor Tappe added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Frazee jumps all over Waubun

The Frazee Lady Hornets came out red-hot from the field in their game against Waubun Feb. 4 in Frazee, as they put up 52 first half points before they cruising to a 66-36 victory.

Frazee (9-7 overall record) hit their first seven shots to start the game as they raced out to a quick lead. The Lady Hornets ended the first half shooting 70 percent (21-for-30) from the floor, as they took a commanding 52-21 halftime lead.

“We have a lot of capable scorers on this team and everything just came together in the first half tonight,” head coach Dave Conzemius said. “The key was our passing, which led to a lot of quality looks at the basket which we were able to convert.”

Josi Tappe led a balanced effort with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Kennady Barlund had 15 points, Mandy Donahue knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points, Katie Smith had eight points and Taylor Tappe added eight points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

“This was a good victory for us as we head into a very difficult part of our schedule,” Conzemius said. “We will need this type of effort in our upcoming games.”

Lady Hornets can’t slow down Vikings

The Lady Hornets had no answer for Mackenzie Korf, as the sophomore point guard led 6th ranked Pelican Rapids to a 79-59 Heart O’Lakes conference win Jan. 31 in Pelican Rapids.

Frazee had success on offense as four different girls scored in double figures, but they could not slow down Korf, as she had a game-high 26 points to go with 12 assists.

“She is a great player and we were not able to slow her down enough for us to have a chance to win the game,” Conzemius said. “We played hard and competed well, but for us to beat a team like that, we need to play better defense and also rebound better.”

Josi Tappe led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 17 points. Oswald had 13 points, Barlund had 11 points, six blocked shots and five steals and Katie Smith had a season-high 11 points.

Taylor Tappe had team-highs in assists and rebounds, with eight each.

Tappe has record game

Frazee junior Josi Tappe scored a school record 42 points last Tuesday night, to lead the Frazee Lady Hornets to a 83-31 victory at Mahnomen.

Tappe was 16-for-20 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line, as she broke the record of 37 points set by Verla Bruhn in 1978.

“It was an incredible performance by Josi tonight,” Conzemius said. “She did not force things and she allowed the game to come to her. Her teammates also did a great job of getting her the ball in spots where she could score.”

Frazee finished the first half strong as they took a commanding 47-17 lead. The Lady Hornets continued to push the lead in the second half, which allowed them to get all players dressed for the game some quality minutes on the floor.

Tappe added seven assists, seven steals and five rebounds to her scoring total.

Barlund had 10 points and eight rebounds, Oswald had nine points and Taylor Tappe had eight points, six rebounds and six assists.

Frazee now sits with a 10-9 record and will host conference foes Breckenridge on Thursday and Barnesville on Saturday at 3 p.m. in their last two home games of the season.
