Frazee girls’ hoops staves off Perham

Whitney Janu drained a three-pointer out of a timeout with two minutes remaining in the game to stifle a late Yellowjacket rally in Frazee’s Heart O’ Lakes Conference girls’ basketball victory 69-58 Thursday evening on Senior Night.

The Hornets sunk eight threes in the game shooting 44 percent from behind the arc.

Perham made four shots from deep out of 12 attempts (33 percent), accounting for a 12-point differential in an 11-point ballgame.

Frazee’s hot shooting in the first half helped the Hornets build a 14-point advantage at the break up 36-22.

Maria Rutten was hot for Perham in the early stages taking feeds from Brittany Miller down low to score the Yellowjackets first dozen points. Frazee led Rutten and Perham 13-12 out of the gate.

The Hornets kept Perham at a distance out of the halftime break until the midway point at 9:55 when a Josie Beachy basket got Perham to within single digits at 46-37.

Josi Tappe and Rutten led all scorers with 22 points each.

Frazee had four players in double figures getting 13 points from Taylor Tappe, 11 from Barlund and 10 from Janu.

Tina Scheidecker had her second straight game in double digits scoring 10 points for Perham. Erickson also scored 10. Beachy added seven points.

Frazee was 13 of 28 (46 percent). Frazee is 2-9 in the conference and improved to a .500 record overall at 11-11.
