Boys Basketball: Lakers win to end regular season

Stingy defense and free throws were a perfect combination for the Detroit Lakes boys’ basketball team, as they went into Alexandria and took an impressive 52-40 victory in the regular season finale.

The win avenges an earlier loss to the Cardinals Dec. 20, by the score of 64-53, as the Laker defense shut down Alexandria to 16 first half points.

On the other side of the court, the Lakers were aggressive taking the ball to the hoop and went a near-perfect 20-21 from the free throw line, to key a 29-point second half to secure the 12-point victory.

Junior guard Christian Hedstrom led the way with 14 points, while Trey Lyngaas dumped in 10 and guard Ryan Cihak nine.

The Lakers also rebounded well with 29 boards, including nine by Lyngaas.
