Girls Golf: DL takes St. Cloud Invite

Even some of the Class 3A schools cannot match up with the thriving Detroit Lakes girls’ golf team, which won its 30th meet in a row with a win in the St. Cloud Apollo Invite Thursday.

The margin of the victory was 17 strokes, as DL accumulated a 303, while second-place Buffalo finished with a 320.

Two Lakers tied in 2013 Co-State medalists Natalie Roth and Kate Smith, who each shot a one-over par 73. But Buffalo’s Lexi Bollant shot low with a strong four-under par 68.

But once again, the Lakers’ depth buried every other team, as Trisa Hutchinson finished sixth with a 78 and teammate Emma Thompson was right behind her with a 79.

Sydney Busker fired an 80 as DL’s fifth-best score, as Matty Tschider finished with a respectable 82.

The Lakers remain far ahead in the rankings in Class 2A with a 315.9 average, while second-place Red Wing stands at 328.0.

Smith is the top-ranked golfer with an average of 73.80, while Roth is fifth at 77.5 and Tschider 10th with an average of 80.80.

The Lakers will host their invite at the Detroit Country Club Tuesday, starting at 1:30 p.m.
