Nodsle and Friesen shoot their way into top 6

The state clay target meet was held Friday and Saturday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. The Detroit Lakes trapshooting team made a spectacular debut in the first MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.

Lakers Jona Friesen tied for second-place overall, while teammate Calvin Nodsle took a top 10 finish by tying for sixth.

The Laker team also had a solid outing by collecting 446 points to finish 16th out of 24 teams. Buffalo took top honors with 489 points.

Friesen shot for a score of 98, one off of state champion Gust Lundeen of Dassel-Cokato.

Others tying for second included Tommy Mavencamp of St. Michael-Albertville and Hunter Hedtke of Monticello.

Each of Rogers’ Dylan Schoepke and Alexandria’s Sam Goetsch tied with Nodsle for sixth-place with a score of 97.

Ricky Borash shot for a 96 for the Lakers during team competition, while Friesen logged in a 91, Josh Weber an 88, Colton Davis an 87 and Nodsle an 84.
