Schramel, Markuson named all-conference

Detroit Lakes' seniors Abby Schramel and Mikayla Markuson were named to the Mid-State Conference girls basketball all-conference team.

Staples-Motley junior Claire Wolhowe was selected as the most valuable player.

Wolhowe helped the Cardinals to the conference championship with a 7-1 conference mark. She was joined by senior teammates Kelsi Weite and Amber Robben on the all-conference team.

Pequot Lakes finished second in the conference standings with a 6-2 record and was represented on the all-conference team by senior Corina Ruud and sophomore Olivia Lane.

Junior Jami Nelson and sophomore Shyanne Loiland were named to the all-conference team from the third-place Crosby-Ironton Rangers.  Detroit Lakes tied with C-I at 3-5 in the conference.

Park Rapids' Jaiden McCollum rounded out the all-conference team.

Honorable mention went to Detroit Lakes' Emily Larson and Breana Price, Staples-Motley's Chelsea Nanik and Sam Schimpp, Pequot Lakes' Sam Littman and Karlie Skog, Crosby-Ironton's Mariah Bodel and Tori Decent, and Park Rapids' Macky Warne and Rilee Michaelson.

Robert Williams

Robert is a Minnesota Newspaper Association award-winning Sports Editor at the Detroit Lakes Tribune. Williams worked prior as the Sports Editor in Perham for the Focus, a Forum Communications newspaper, from 2010-14.
