Morgan, Peterson, Olson top 10 at Harrier Classic

Three area cross country runners had top 10 finishes in big fields of competition at the Perham Harrier Classic Thursday afternoon.

Detroit Lakes junior Tanner Olson continued his strong push this season with a 10th place finish to pace the Laker boys to a ninth place team finish out of 25 teams.

On the girls side, Frazee senior Ellie Morgan finished in seventh place and Lake Park-Audubon’s eighth-grade standout Lily Peterson was two spots back in ninth place.

Olson battled in the front of the pack most of the race running 16:35 crossing 28 seconds behind winner Alex Luz of Fargo North and runner-up Muqsen Hussein of Fargo South. The duo were even down the final stretch with Luz pulling ahead in the final 20 meters for the win.

Detroit Lakes scored 227 points from the top five runners. Austin Gedrose (17:29) and Peyton Nordby, Peyton had back-to-back finishes in 42nd and 43rd place, respectively. Grant Fritch-Gallatin cross in 57th place (17:38), followed by Tucker Strawsell in 77th (18:08).

Bemidji won the team competition with 66 points, followed by Perham with 92. Frazee scored 422 to finish in 17th place led by Alex Beck (17:47) in 65th position. Lake Park-Audubon scored 685 to place 22nd. Tyler Bjerke was the first Raider to cross the finish line in 126th place (19:22).

The Frazee girls competed with four runners, one shy of a full complement. Megan Danielson had a strong finish placing 23rd overall (20:20) as a nice one-two punch with Morgan in seventh (19:38),

Peterson was one of three eighth-graders in the top 10 with West Central Area’s Lexi Bright placing third (19:21), Anna Lien of Fargo North in eighth place (19:39), one spot above Peterson in ninth (19:47). Peterson broke her own school record with the 5K time.

LILY PETERSON

The Raider girls scored 284 points to finish in ninth. Taytum Nelson recorded a top 50 finish in a field of 152 runners. Nelson finished in 45th place running a time of 20:59.

Detroit Lakes scored 363 points to finish in 11th place.

Katie McConkey continued to pace the Lakers finishing 55th in 21:15, followed by Carly Fritz in 71st place (21:40). DL’s next three scoring finishers crossed in a pack led by Cortney Brodsho in 82nd (21:59), Emma Fegely in 85th (22:04) and Zoe Allen ini 89th (22:14).

Perham slipped by Lakeville South by two points for the team title scoring 60. The Moorhead Spuds placed third with 100 points.

Detroit Lakes travels to Pequot Lakes for the Mid-State Conference championships Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.

The DL boys aim for a fourth consecutive conference title. The Laker girls look to improve on a fourth place finish last season.
