The Crookston Police Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources tranquilized the moose that had been occasionally entering the Crookston city limits over the last few months.

When the moose was spotted in a field south of Crookston on Monday, local DNR wildlife expert Ross Heir notified a DNR biologist from the Twin Cities who flew to Crookston that day, according to the Crookston Police Department.

That afternoon the moose was successfully tranquilized and moved onto a horse trailer.

Once aboard the trailer, the moose was given an antidote, which revived the animal within a few minutes.

Officials transported the moose to Kittson County to be released.

Previous attempts to drive the moose out of the city had not kept the animal away for good.

Before releasing the animal, DNR agents fitted it with a tracking collar to monitor its future movements.
