Swegarden dominates with no-hitter and 15 Ks versus Fosston

Even time couldn’t curb the Lake Park-Audubon baseball team’s momentum, or of that of senior pitcher Mason Swegarden’s dominant play.

Swegarden pitched the Raiders to a 10-0 road victory over Fosston Thursday, which included a no-hitter and 15 strikeouts.

The Raiders improved to 5-1 on the season and continued their roll despite missing almost a week of playing due to inclement weather.

“Mason was hitting his spots and his pitches were more pronounced,” said LP-A head coach Sean Degerstrom. “He’s been working on some other pitches, but when he needed to throw a fastball past a batter, he did.”

And he did it a lot, with 15 strikeouts in seven innings, while recording his first no-hitter of the season. Only one ball was hit out of the infield.

“The defense still made the plays when they needed to,” Degerstrom said.

Swegarden also did the job at the plate by going 3-5 with three RBIs, while Tim Brekken was 2-4 with an RBI.

The Raiders had 12 hits total.

The 5-1 start to the season has put the Raiders in control of the Pine to Prairie Conference with a 3-1 record. They hold the tiebreaker over Norman County, as well.

“We control our own destiny,” Degerstrom said. “It’s a nice start to the season and puts us in position to reach our goal of winning the conference.”

Monday the Raiders will be in Hawley, and then will host Fosston Thursday and Fertile/Beltrami Friday.
