With junior Laynee Cole qualifying for the Class 1A state meet as only the second Raider girls’ golf player to do so last year, the Lake Park-Audubon squad is looking to build on that accomplishment.

Cole returns after finishing 67th in the state meet, while her teammate junior Lindsey Olson hopes to add some more LP-A history.

The Raider duo’s goal is to make state this season, thus being the first LP-A twosome to do so in school’s history.

“Both have worked very hard and both want to get to state,” said LP-A head coach Marge Beaudine. “Hopefully we are starting a good trend here for girls’ golf.”

Over the last two years, the Raiders have consistently had five girls shooting in the low 50’s at nine-hole meets.

With Cole making state last year, the bar has heightened.

Each of Kaitlin Ricke, Bobbie Jo Balder and Shania Alder will fill the next three spots on the team. There are also will be a good contingent of younger golfers who will look to crack the varsity lineup, too.

“Our team goal is to finish in the upper tier in the eight-team Pine to Prairie Conference,” Beaudine said. “Once one girl got the taste of playing in state, the others can almost taste it, as well. It will be a team effort this year.”
