Two top three finishes in the breaststroke gave Detroit Lakes enough points to seal a victory over Bemidji after the final relay Tuesday, Dec. 19 by a score of 95-90 in a Section 5A swimming and diving dual at the DLCCC Aquatic Center.

Garrett Bakken swam a time of 1:14.47 and teammate Sean Oakes placed third (1:21.09) in the breaststroke to give the Lakers a 91-80 lead heading to the 400-freestyle relay.

Bemidji grabbed first and third in the relay for 10 team points to get within one point, but the second place finish by Gabe Kitzmann, Tanner Olson, Lance Parzyck and anchor Tucker Strawsell (3:43.87) earned four points and the five-point team victory.

The meet was tied at 31-31 after four events heading into diving.

Lance Parzyck swam 2:00.56 to get DL’s first event victory of the night winning the 200-freestyle. Tucker Strawsell and John Gulon placed third and fourth to give DL 11 of a possible 16 points in the event.

Bemidji grabbed the lead with the top two diving finishes. DL’s Cole Metelak was third and Edward Johnson took fifth.
