Laker wrestlers impressive in win over Bemidji

Detroit Lakes never trailed to improve to 2-0 in dual matches after a 41-33 victory over former section rivals Bemidji Tuesday night at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.

Cade Jackson got the Lakers off on the right foot pinning Riley Farris in the second period and Bemidji forfeited at 113-pounds to put DL up 12-0 early.

Blake Weber followed up with a pin at 126 over Seth Newby with three seconds remaining in the third period for an 18-6 lead.

Payton Jackson won a 12-4 major decision over 132-pounder Darren Roth and Fabyon Greer took the mat for his 145-pound match with Nate Golden holding a 22-12 advantage.

Greer and Golden battled but Greer held a 4-2 lead heading to the third where he sealed the match in a 5-3 decision.

Colton Hinrichs got Bemidji within seven points trailing 25-18 with a second period pin of Brennen Sather at 152 and Chance Hinrichs came out strong against Austin Baker at 160.

Baker evened the score at 3-3 at the end of the first period and turned the tables quickly in the second to pin Hinrichs at 1:37 for a big swing in match momentum and a 31-18 Laker lead.

Isaiah Thompson made quick work of Nick Mutchler with a fall at 1:25 at 170 and Noah Olds dominated Nic Geiger ina 13-1 major decision to seal the dual on the scoreboard 41-18.

Bemidji finished the match with a decision, a pin at 220 and Laker head coach Rob Ullyott elected to not send a wrestler out at heavyweight for the 41-33 final.

Bemidji moved up to Class 3A after being in 8AA last year. DL knocked the Jacks out of the section semifinals 33-31.

The Lakers return to tournament action at the 40-team Big Bear December 15-16 at Cass Lake-Bena high school. DL has one home dual on the schedule before the end of the year when they host United Clay Becker Tuesday Dec. 19.
