A collared squirrel sports a radio transmitter that sends out a chirp about 30 times a minute as long as the animal is active. If the squirrel remains motionless for 24 hours, the transmitter goes into “mortality mode,” and the frequency of the chirping doubles. MINNESOTA DNR
