FRED CROWELL IS THE NEW PASTOR at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes, but he's no stranger to the community, having spent his childhood years here until the family moved to St. Paul when he was in fifth grade. He and his wife, Roberta, have two grown daughters, and one 13-year-old granddaughter.

PATRONS CROWD the Ice Hole bar on frozen Lake Lida in western Minnesota. The fish house/watering hole was the brainchild of Chris Haugen, whose business partner, Josie Norgren provided the liquor license that allowed the business to open this winter. The bar is nestled among fish houses on the frozen Lake Lida.

OTTER TAIL COUNTY NATIVE BLANE KLEMEK is the new area wildlife supervisor for the Detroit Lakes office of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He and his family live near Itasca State Park, but hope eventually to make the move to DL.

NICOLE SCHAFFER started work as a soil conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) field office in Detroit Lakes on June 20. The Hastings native divides her time between her new job and her home in Hastings, which she and her husband Jeff purchased back in April.

FORMER DETROIT LAKES RESIDENT Carol Anne Hough has written an educational children's play, "Garden Adventures," that will be produced by a school in Queensland, Australia on Dec. 8. Two earlier plays in Hough's environmentally-themed series, "Orchard Adventures" and "Wetland Adventures," were presented at the Historic Holmes Theatre in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
