Vintage linens from the collection of Barb Nicholson are on display at the Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County, located inside Moorhead’s Hjemkomst Center, from now through April 4. Nicholson turns original, vintage linens with blemishes, age spots or small tears into works of art, enhancing rather than changing the design of the original tablecloths,  floral hankies and other linen pieces, rather than changing them. The Families Forever Garden Quilt show is Aug. 17, and organizers are looking for entrants to display their quilts. The public is welcome to come enjoy viewing the quilts, walking around the garden and sipping some tea at the event, which raises money for two scholarships in memory of Mary Disse Ballard. A donation of 60 hand-painted and handmade quilts was recently made by Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center of Mahnomen to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley, based in Fargo. The quilts were designed, painted and stitched by casino employee Mary Dahlen.
