Kermit M. Bjorlie will turn 100 years old in early April. He still proudly states that he was in the US Army Aircorp, Pacific Theater. Bjorlie was a P-47 aircraft pilot during WWII. His hometown was Pekin, North Dakota,  and during the early years after WWII he and his wife, Ruth, lived in Mahnomen. Bjorlie was a graduate of NDAC/NDSU and has lived for several years in Zumbrota, Minn.

This proposed citation was in a case file for Private David A. Hurr, which "Prairie Boys at War" author Merry Helm discovered during her research at the National Archives & Records Administration this past February. Helm is working to get a posthumous Medal of Honor citation for Hurr, because she feels his award status was unfairly downgraded due to his low rank.

Ulen native Brady Oberg, who served with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan from 2010-11, passed away Aug. 6, 2015, at age 27. His family has created the Brady Oberg Legacy  Foundation in his memory. The foundation will be holding a retreat for combat veterans over the Labor Day weekend.
