For the first-ever Minnesota State High School League state trapshooting meet, Detroit Lakes junior Jona Friesen had some high expectations. “My goal was to go in and win the first-ever high school championship,” Friesen said.

The Detroit Lakes trapshooting team made a spectacular debut in the first MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. Lakers Jona Friesen tied for second-place overall, while teammate Calvin Nodsle took a top 10 finish by tying for sixth.
