Sept. 9. 1958-Aug. 28, 2010 Former Frazee and Erskine resident Neil A. Berger, 51, of Grant Village, Wyo., died Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Yellowstone National Park near Grant Village. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes; there will be a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. A mass of Christian burial is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with Father Xavier Ilango officiating.
Krystle Jones, 36, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 in David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
July 17, 1917-Aug. 30, 2010 Norton J. Gaard, 93, of Algonac, Mich., died Monday, August 30, 2010 in his home. Norton was born July 17, 1917 in Fargo. He married Edith Edstrom on May 29, 1946 in Detroit Lakes. Mr. Gaard was a member of the Algonac VFW Post 3901. Preceding Norton in death were his son Tim; parents Brede and Pauline; and siblings, Harold, Paul, Joseph, and Betsy Vangerude. He is survived by his wife, Edith. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Algonac, with visitation from 10 a.m.
Dec. 18, 1956-Aug. 30, 2010 Mary K. Simon, 53, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at her home under the care of hospice of the Red River Valley. Mary was born to Charles and Juliet (Larson) Karn on December 18, 1956. She attended Detroit Lakes public schools and later earned her GED, of which she was very proud. From 1972 to 1978 Mary worked at St. Mary's Nursing Center in the dietary department. She later worked a short time at Swift's in Detroit Lakes. On March 31, 1978 Mary was united in marriage to Robert (Red) Simon. They made their home in Detroit Lakes.
May 29, 1946-Aug. 29, 2010 Former Lidgerwood, N.D., resident Genevieve M. Trinka, 86, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Cottages at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Frank Family Funeral Home in Lidgerwood, and for one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept.
May 7, 1956-Aug. 24, 2010 William Henry "Will" Bedford, III, 54, of Park Rapids died suddenly at his home in rural Park Rapids, Tuesday, August 24, 2010. William was born the son of William, Jr. and Peggy (Piper) Bedford on May 7, 1956 in Park Rapids. He grew up and attended school in Park Rapids, where he graduated in 1974, and also from St. Cloud State College. Will loved nature and being outdoors. He lived at the former Val Chatel ski resort and lodge and enjoyed what nature had to offer there. He spent his winters in Fort Meade, Ariz.
Jan. 5, 1942-Aug. 25, 2010 Wilma Joyce Robertson, 68, a longtime Park Rapids area resident, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. Wilma was born Jan. 5, 1942 on the home farm in Toad Lake Township of Becker County to Arnold and Mabel (Nelson) Zick. As a girl, she attended the District 83 country school near her home through the eighth grade. She went on to attend the Frazee High School where she graduated with the Class of 1960.
May 10, 1913-Aug. 28, 2010 Harold S. Johnson, 97, of Detroit Lakes died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, under the care of hospice. The youngest child of Harold J. and Sina Johnson, Harold was born on the farm in Hereim Township, Greenbush, Minn., on May 10, 1913. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at the Gavick School, graduated from Greenbush High School in 1932, and attended North Dakota State University for a year and a half.
Oct. 18, 1918-Aug. 27, 2010 Ernest F. Olson, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, August 27, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Ernest was born to Rudolph and Emelia (Aslakson) Olson on October 18, 1918 in Hoff Township of Pope County, Minn. He was baptized at West Zion Lutheran Church in Clontarf, Minn., by the Reverend Christ Pederson and confirmed by the Reverend K.R. Palmer. Ernest attended public school at District 85 in Pope County and Benson High School in Benson, Minn. In 1942, he entered the United States Army and did his basic training in Little Rock, Ark.
June 23, 1925-Aug. 26, 2010 Alfred E. Thiem, beloved husband, father, grandfather and pastor: With great sorrow but with joy in the certain hope of the resurrection and eternal life in Christ Jesus, the family of Rev. Alfred Thiem announces his death on Thursday, August 26, 2010. Alfred Thiem was born in Kendallville, Ind., on June 23, 1925. He was the oldest living child of Emil and Anna (Pietz) Thiem. He became a child of God through Holy Baptism on July 5, 1925. He was baptized and confirmed by Dr. M.F. Kretzman at St.
