Aug. 4, 1920-Jan. 22, 2010 Adeline S. Gram, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Audubon, with the Reverend Paul Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be held in the spring at Northwood Cemetery in Grygla, Minn. Adeline Sylvia Foss was born to Alfred and Selma (Anderson) Foss on August 4, 1920 near Halstad, Minn.
Afton Braseth, 27, Ulen, Minn., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, as the result of an auto accident near Moorhead, Minn. Afton E. Moher was born August 19, 1982, the daughter of Mike and Siobhan (Powers) Moher in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She attended school in Grand Forks through the first grade, and then moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where Afton completed the seventh grade. Afton's family then moved to Moorhead, where she graduated from Moorhead High. While in high school, Afton was very active in cheerleading, which she thoroughly loved.
Eugene Henry Lehmann, 77, of Detroit Lakes, formerly of the Park Rapids and Menahga areas, passed peacefully into Eternity at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, with his loved ones at his side. Eugene was born on Jan. 20, 1933, in Havana, N.D., to Charlie and Grace (Ellsworth) Lehmann. He attended public schools in Havana. As a young man, Gene ventured to Cog-swell, North Dakota, where he worked on a farm for several years. At the age of 18, Gene enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served his country in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Jan. 8, 1920-Jan. 12, 2010 Following a stroke two days after his 90th birthday, Eddie R. Jokela passed away Jan. 12, 2010. A wake service: will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Funeral service: at "High Noon" Tuesday, Jan. 26 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Park Rapids. A military burial with the 10th Mountain Division Honor Guard and flag presentation is planned for the same day at Green Valley Cemetery, west of Menahga. Eddie was born on the original Jokela Homestead (dairy farm) between Wolf Lake and Park Rapids, Jan.
Aug. 6, 1937-Jan. 18, 2010 Former Detroit Lakes resident William F. "Bill" Vezner, age 72, of Taylor, Wis., died Monday, January 18, 2010 in his home. Bill was born to Gordon E. and Elizabeth "Alice" (Hunczak) Vezner on August 6, 1937 in Superior, Wis. He graduated from Concordia High School in St. Paul. He later attended Concordia College of St. Paul for two years, and seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., for one year. He married Karen A. Wesala on December 30, 1960 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
January 10, 1956-Jan. 19, 2010 Joyce A. Lubbesmeyer, 54, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Cormorant. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, January 22 at Augustana Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Paul Peterson officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 21 at Augustana Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Joyce Ann Jones was born to Richard and Doris (Bergquist) Jones on January 10, 1956 in Glyndon, Minn.
Nov. 3, 1910-Jan. 8, 2010 Former Cedar Rapids, Iowa resident Alma B. Roman, 99, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, January 8, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. A mass of Christian burial was held Friday, January 15 at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with interment in St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Alma Bertha Dahnalek was born to Joseph and Amelia (Novak) Dahnalek on November 3, 1910 in Lynn County, near Cedar Rapids. She was raised on a farm in Lynn County and graduated from high school in 1928.
July 6, 1921-Jan. 17, 2010 Former Council Bluffs, Iowa resident Horace A. "Bart" Barton, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Horace Barton was born to Benjamin and Myrtle (Winn) Barton on July 6, 1921 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he grew up and received his education, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1939. While in high school he served as the class photographer.
June 19, 1951-Jan. 13, 2010 Larry "Butch" Lee Pachel, 58, of Park Rapids, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in Junction City, Kansas. Butch was born the son of George J. and Pauline R. (Bennett) Pachel on June 19, 1951 in Park Rapids, where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Clements on June 12, 1971 in Snellman, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to a farm in Osage Township, where they continued to reside until the time of his death.
Oct. 11, 1915-Jan. 18, 2010 Myrtle C. Olson died on Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Oak Crossing-Cedar Ridge in Detroit Lakes. Myrtle Christina Grefsrud was born to Gustav and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud on October 11, 1915 at their home in rural Hawley. She attended country school in Parke Township, Clay County. Myrtle married Oscar T. Olson on December 30, 1936. They lived on a farm in rural Lake Park, until they moved to Lake Ida in 1951. Myrtle was a stay at home mother who was a caregiver to all of those around her. She was also an avid gardener and baker.
