William A. "Willy" Dillon, 18, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, continuing one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be made in Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
April 30, 1914-Feb. 25, 2010 Olga M. "Sally" Root, 95, of Detroit Lakes died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Olga Mathilda Hanson was born to Nils and Caroline (Herberg) Hanson on April 30, 1914 in Lake Eunice Township. As a young girl she moved with her family to Ottertail County near Pelican Rapids, where she grew up and attended school. On June 12, 1937 Sally was united in marriage to Frank Root in Detroit, Mich.
Oct. 12, 1932-Feb. 27, 2010 Joanne F. Jager, 77, of rural Detroit Lakes died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Joanne Ferne Hanson was born to Rudolph and Hilma Nelson Hanson on October 12, 1932 in Richey, Mont. The family moved to rural Osage when Joanne was two years old. She grew up and attended country school in rural Osage, and later attended high school in Frazee. She worked at Blandings Department Store in Detroit Lakes. On June 26, 1960 Joanne was united in marriage to David Jager at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Osage.
Sept. 8, 1951-Feb. 26, 2010 Deborah J. Moe, 58, of Detroit Lakes died Friday February 26, 2010 at her residence. Deborah Jane Moe was born to Austin and Karen (Stene) Moe on September 8, 1951 in Fargo. She grew up in Seattle, Wash., and Shreveport, La. She then served in the United States Air Force. She later moved to Detroit Lakes, where she worked for Audubon Engineering, Holiday Gas Station, and lastly at Lakes Homes. Deborah enjoyed road trips, camping and eating out. She was known for her great sense of humor.
Nov. 23, 2009-Feb. 23, 2010 Elliot David Close, 3-month-old son of Darrick and Carmin Close of Frazee, died on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 1 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also begin one hour prior to mass at the church on Tuesday. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee with Father Xavier Ilango officiating. Interment will be made in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Frazee next to his grandpa, David Close.
Geese everywhere breathed a sigh of relief Thursday when one of their arch enemies passed away. Charles Eginton never did have a bad day hunting. It was a passion he loved sharing with friends and family. Charles was born on Feb. 15, 1914, in Staples, Minn., to Charles and Helen (Simerman) Eginton and died on Feb. 25, 2010, at age 96 in Fergus Falls, Minn., at the Minnesota Veterans Home, resident of Detroit Lakes. He grew up in St. Paul and attended both Macalester College and the U of MN. He was a Phi Beta Kappa member.
Dylan J. Peterson, 11, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, in St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes, after a long battle with muscular dystrophy. Funeral services for Dylan will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. A gathering of friends and family will be held at David-Donehower Funeral Home on Monday, March 1, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Dylan James was born March 13, 1998, in Mobridge, S.D., to Jon Tate Merchant and Tara Peter-son.
Edythe (Reep) (Holmen) Braun 86, Detroit Lakes, Minn., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minn. Edythe Elnora Enget was born Sept. 26, 1923, to Jon and Anna (Hendrickson) Enget in Audubon, Minn. She was a twin, the last in a family of ten. She attended country school around Audubon up to the 9th grade. Edythe married the love of her life, Arvid Reep in Audubon on April 15, 1942. Arvid was killed while working for Northern Pacific Railroad. She then married Ed Holmen and resided in Horace, N.D.
Kathie May Sagmo, 58, Detroit Lakes, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, in Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Greg Anderson officiating.
Ivan Gerald Kaiser, 83, Lake Park, Minn., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in the Transitional Care Unit, Oak Crossings in Detroit Lakes. Ivan was born near Ogema on Nov. 13, 1926, to Arnold and Anna (Bullert) Kaiser. Ivan was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He attended country school near his home. He married Ardith Hedstrom on Jan. 29, 1950. Carpentry was a skill Ivan learned from his father and brothers. He began his working career as a talented carpenter with Harvey Haugrud and Harry Sahlberg.
