March 24, 1938-Oct. 6, 2009 Arlene C. Larson, 71, of Lake Park, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, surrounded by her loving family. Arlene Carol Norman, was born to Oscar and Clara Norman in Hawley, MN. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1956. Arlene married Victor H. Larson, Jr. on August 25, 1956 in Hawley. In 1958 they moved to Lake Park. She worked at the Hilltop Lounge and later at the Lake Park Liquor Store for 28 years, where she was known as "Pixie." She retired in 1998. She loved cooking and dancing.
Nov. 3, 1951-Oct. 9, 2009 Bonnie A. Wolff 57, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday Oct. 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Bonnie Ann Wolff was born to Orville and Alice (Murray) Greminger on November 3, 1951 in Renton, Wash. They moved to rural Detroit Lakes when Bonnie was a young girl. There she grew up and attended school, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1969. In 1971, Bonnie was united in marriage to Doug Irish. They farmed near Waubun.
Gene A. Miller, 65, of Rothsay, Minn., died Thursday, October 8, 2009in Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls, Minn. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12 at the Berean Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes. The David-Donehower Funeral Home provided arrangements.
Helen Shaw, 81, of Frazee passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center. Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 11 at Sacred Heart Church in Frazee. A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes was entrusted with arrangements.
March 27, 1933-Oct. 7, 2009 Hugo C. Heinle, 76, of Perham, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at the Perham Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 in the Perham Community Alliance Church, with the Rev. Tom Mitchell officiating. Hugo Carl Heinle was born the son of Charles and Lydia Heinle on March 27, 1933 in Hebron, N.D. He was raised on the family farm and schooled in Hebron.
Former area resident Dr. Luther A. Johnson died of cancer on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at his home in Port Richey, Fla., under the care of Hospice. Luther worked for the government at the Detroit Lakes Swift plant, and also other plants in the area as a veterinarian in charge of inspection.
Elwood J. Lund, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday October 7, 2009 at Oak Crossing, St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Arrangements are pending with the West-Kjos Funeral Home ( www.westkjos.com ) in Detroit Lakes.
Pamela K. "Bonzo" Jackson Risdon, 58, of Ponsford, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center, with her daughter, Loretta, by her side. Friends may call from 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 until noon Friday, Oct. 9 at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth, with the Rev. Lisa Smith and Rev. Pat Olson officiating. Interment will be in St. Columba Episcopal Cemetery, White Earth. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
Former Wolf Lake resident Mildred Kangas, 83, of Menahga, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church in rural Wolf Lake, continuing for one hour prior to services on Thursday. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church, with interment following at the Pickerel Lake Cemetery. All arrangements are being provided by the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka.
Jerry W. Adkins, 67, of Ponsford, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
