Former Detroit Lakes resident Irma Marie Thieman, 91, of Plymouth, Minn., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Surviving Irma are her daughters, Jane Thieman (George Stodola) of Plymouth and Susie Thieman of Kula, Hawaii; son, Mike (Nancy) Thieman of Lima, Ohio; brother, Theophil "Ted" (Joanne) Greive of Akron, Ohio; two grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Ray; parents, Theophil and Emma Greive; brother, Norvin "Bud" Greive; sister, Mary Bocksteigel; daughter, Kathy Gall; and son-in-law, Doug Gall.
April 9, 1922-March 9, 2009 Former Lake Park resident Carl M. Fuchs, 86, of Fertile, Minn., died peacefully with his family by his side, Monday, March 9, 2009, in Riverview Health Care, Crookston, Minn. Carl was born to George and Agnes (Buth) Fuchs on April 9, 1922 in Culbertson, Mont. When he was twelve years old he moved with his family to Sabin, Minn. In 1940, they moved to Felton, where Carl farmed with his Dad. Carl married the love of his life, Georgia Hamernik on Aug. 5, 1945, a union of 63 years and a testament to their children and families. In 1962, they moved to Lake Park.
March 19, 1985-March 6, 2009 Roseanne L. Parisian Lopez, 23, of White Earth, died Friday, March 6, 2009 in rural Waubun. Roseanne Lee Lopez was born to Raymond Lopez and Linda Bevins on March 19, 1985 in Minneapolis. She attended school in the White Earth and Waubun Area, later earning her GED. Roseanne had planned to attend chef's training in the near future. Roseanne enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and loved animals, especially her beloved cat, "White Sox." She did beautiful beadwork and was known for her imaginative use of colors.
Cheryl A. Peterson, 64, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Surviving Cheryl are her sister, Jackie (Dirk) Putnam of Detroit Lakes; one brother, Tom (Patricia) Peterson of Chanhassen, Minn.; as well as three nieces and one nephew. Feb. 21, 1947-March 9, 2009 Michelle A. Harris, 62, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes. Michelle Arlene Morrison was born to Maynard and Myrtle (Doyle) Morrison on Feb. 21, 1947 in Devils Lake, N.D. She graduated high school at Crookston, Minn. Following in her mother's footsteps, she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Jamestown College. She began her teaching career in Coon Rapids, Minn., where her roommate introduced her to her beloved Bob.
April 2, 1930-March 6, 2009 Norma J. Neitzke, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Norma Jean Courneya was born to Garnett and Myrtle (Fingalson) Courneya on April 2, 1930 in Detroit Lakes, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1949. She received a scholarship to attend the Gerrard School of Music in Chicago, Ill. She worked for the Wilcox Lumber Yard in Detroit Lakes. Norma married Dr. Joseph G. Neitzkeon June 9, 1952 in Detroit Lakes. She taught piano lessons for Mathison Music Store.
Feb. 23, 1908-March 5, 2009 Marvel V. Henderson, 101, of Detroit Lakes died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Marvel was born to Albert and Lydia (Pierson) Henrichs on Feb. 23, 1908 in Russell, Minn. Her family lived in southern Minnesota and also in Canada for a few years. On Dec. 20, 1927 she married Clarence Henderson. They farmed in Page, N.D., for several years, later moving to Fargo.
Dec. 20, 1944-March 4, 2009 Former Detroit Lakes resident Dennis E. Makey, 64, of Grand Island, Neb., died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Grand Island Veteran's Home, Grand Island. Dennis was born to George and Mildred (Solmon) Makey on Dec. 20, 1944 in Duluth, Minn., where he was also baptized. After World War II, the family moved back to Detroit Lakes, where Dennis attended grade school at Washington Elementary. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Dennis graduated from high school in 1962.
March 13, 1928-Feb. 28, 2009 Doris A. Eklund, 80, of Ulen died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen. Doris Arloween Hove was born to Conrad and Mearl (Ashmore) Hove on March 13, 1928 in rural Ulen Township. She was baptized at Atlanta Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Growing up, Doris attended Ulen Public School and graduated with the class of 1946. Following high school, she went to Business College in Detroit Lakes. On Jan. 29, 1950, Doris married Donald Eklund at the Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage in Ulen.
Feb. 25, 1941-Feb. 27, 2009 Thelma Wang, 68, of Waubun, died Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Mahnomen Health Center Hospital. Thelma Ilene Rawley was born the oldest child of Rose (Morgan) and Jerry Rawley, Sr. on Feb. 25, 1941 in White Earth. While she was growing up, Thelma's dad worked construction and therefore, the family moved quite often and lived in several towns throughout Montana and Wyoming, and mostly wintered in Fargo. As a young lady, Thelma started her own family and had decided her children weren't going to be uprooted when they started school.
