April 5, 1930-Dec. 4, 2008 Beatrice M. Antell, 78, of Mahnomen, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Beatrice Marie Keezer was born the daughter of Frank and Eliza (Armstrong) Keezer on April 5, 1930 at their home near White Earth. As a child, Beatrice attended school in Pipestone and Flandreau, S.D. She was raised near Naytahwaush, and later attended the White Earth Mission School for one year. In 1942, Beatrice married Issac Antell. Together they were blessed with three children: Clifford, Gary, and Debra.
June 5, 1915-Dec. 8, 2008 Elizabeth L. Cummings, 93, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Elizabeth L. Young was born to Frank and Margaret (Wiebersch) Young on June 5, 1915 in Waubun. She moved with her family to Detroit Lakes in 1928 and was a 1933 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Elizabeth worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney Co, Montgomery Ward and for Blandings Department Store, where she was the buyer for the children's department prior to her retirement in 1978. She had been a resident of Park Manor since it opened in 1979.
May 5, 1968-Nov. 30, 2008 Former Detroit Lakes resident Kristi Morley, 40, of Mahnomen, died on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Mahnomen Health Center. Kristi LaRae Warren was born May 5, 1968 in Detroit Lakes. She spent her first five years on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, before moving to Minneapolis. She attended St. Albert Catholic School and later graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis. Following high school, Kristi and James Longfield together had three children: James, Anthony and Stephanie.
March 8, 1924-Dec. 2, 2008 Charles B. "Charlie" Odegaard, 84, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Mary's Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes. Charles was born to Herman and Mattie (Christensen) Odegaard on March 8, 1924 in Lake Park. He grew up near Lake Park and attended rural country school. After completing his education he began working on the family farm and at the Children's Home in Lake Park. Charles married Patricia Bryngelson on April 29, 1951 in Detroit Lakes.
Nov. 27, 1925-Dec. 3, 2008 Elmer J. Wolff, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health Center in Detroit Lakes. Elmer John Wolff was born to Rudolph and Margaret (Sauter) Wolff on Nov. 27, 1925, in Harvey, N.D. He served as a medical technician in the United States Army during World War II, including a stint in Okinawa, and attained the rank of staff sergeant. Elmer married Betty Geiss on May 4, 1956 in Mandan, N.D. After their marriage they made their home in Bismarck. Elmer worked for Swift & Company for 36 years.
May 7, 1927-Nov. 29, 2008 Marion E. Yocom, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes. Marion was born the daughter of Thor and Flossie (Wilson) Tarnstrom on May 7, 1927, in Minneapolis, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Edison High School. Marion married Vernon Yocom on March 26, 1947 in Albert Lea, Minn. They made their home in Minneapolis and later moved to Detroit Lakes, in 1968. Marion was very proud of her family and loved being a mom to her seven children. She was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Aug. 28, 1938-Nov. 29, 2008 Former Ogema-area resident Arlene J. Engelmeier, 70, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Henning, Minn. Arlene Joan Safar was born to Joseph and Lillian (Olson) Safar on Aug. 28, 1938, in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and lived near Ogema and attended school in Ogema, then graduated from Waubun in 1956. She went to college in Bemidji for two years, then worked for New York Life for 32 years, until she retired. Arlene married Harvey Engelmeier on January 22, 1977 in Spring Lake Park, Minn.
Dec. 17, 1924-Dec. 1, 2008 Irene King, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday December 1, 2008 at the Cottages at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes. Sylvia Irene Walstrom was born the second child of Sievert and Helen (Momb) Walstrom on Dec. 17, 1924 in Rochert. She attended school in Audubon and Detroit Lakes. She married Ervin R. Sharp on November 30, 1941 in Frazee. World War II caused the young couple to spend three of their early years apart while Ervin served in the Army. Irene was best known as a homemaker, a wonderful mother and faithful church worker.
Dec. 11, 1942-Nov. 27, 2008 Linda Kinder, 65, of Lake Park died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at Innovis Hospital in Fargo. Linda was born to Jack and Agnes (Lehmar) Grosvenor on Dec. 11, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. On April 17, 1961, Linda married Larry Kinder at Neola, Iowa. The couple made their home in Martensdale, Iowa. She attended beauty school in Des Moines and then operated as a licensed beautician in her own shop for 10 years. She was also employed by R.G.
Sept. 16, 1923-Nov. 23, 2008 Florence Miller, 85, of Mahnomen, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 in her home. Florence Ann Voit was born the daughter of George and Anna (Rehm) Voit on Sept. 16, 1923 in Wahpeton, N.D. As a young child, she moved with her family to the Mahnomen area. Growing up, Florence attended country school and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1941. Florence married Ervin Miller on June 10, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, Minn.
