Average retail gasoline prices in Minnesota have fallen 3.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.21/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,856 gas outlets in Minnesota. This compares with the national average, which has fallen 4.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.28/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Dr. Jaime Verano Chavez, a hospitalist, has joined Essentia Health St. Mary's-Detroit Lakes. "I am so excited to start my practice here at Essentia Health," Chavez said. "Detroit Lakes already feels like home to me." Chavez earned a medical degree from the Universidad San Martin DePorres in La Molina, Lima, Peru. He completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York. "I think my mission as a physician is to help others and to provide the best possible care to this community," he said.
Lakeland Mental Health Center would like to welcome Shelly Guida, MS, LMFT to their Detroit Lakes office. Guida is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has over 27 years of experience in behavioral health services. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the office and will provide therapy services to children, adolescents and families with a variety of mental health symptoms. A few special interests she has are working with adolescents experiencing mental health symptoms, grief and loss, and family relationship issues.
Wednesday, June 14 At 6:01 a.m. a caller reported a pickup smoking on the 13000 block of Redman Beach Road in Lake Park. At 8:50 a.m. money was reportedly stolen from a residence on the 48000 block of Pow Wow Highway in Ponsford. At 8:58 a.m. the Half Moon Trail Resort was reportedly broken into and the till was emptied. At 9:14 a.m. a pickup was reportedly damaged while parked on the 26000 block of Lidstrom Road in Detroit Lakes.
Wednesday, June 28 Book Fair: The Laker Prep Early Childhood Center will host a book fair from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the center (551 11th Ave in DL). All purchases benefit the school.
A book fair sponsored by Laker Prep and the DL Breakfast Rotarians began today and will run through July 28. The fair will be held at Laker Prep Early Childhood Center (551 11th Ave.), with hours from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Online ordering will also be available from June 26-July 2 at www.scholastic.com/bf/lakerpreppreschool . Everyone is welcome to attend, and monetary donations are also being accepted to assist in purchasing books for children in the community.
A vehicle collision on Highway 210 sent four to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23.

PRC uses results from these surveys to rank Essentia physicians, staff and facilities within its national database of approximately 400 health care organizations. As a result of surveys conducted between January and December 2016, 249 Essentia physicians, advanced practitioners, departments and facilities have received high-ranking Excellence in Healthcare Awards.
