Jade Presents is set to host an Explore Lake Life Expo January 27-28 at the Scheels Arena in Fargo. "Not just another boat show," the expo will showcase what lake life and what lakes country in Minnesota has to offer, with over 40 varying vendors including Lakegirl, Lakeshirts, Harmonious Architecture, Detroit Lakes Mountain, DL Bike Shop, The Inn At Dunvilla, Lakes Area Landscaping, Vergas State Bank, and many more.
The Becker County Transit has now started a 7 a.m. bus service. Beginning Monday, January 9, riders can call in and schedule rides for 7 a.m. Before, the start time of the transit system was 8 a.m. The new 7 a.m. start time will help get riders to and from work, class, shopping, dining, appointments, and more, before the 8 o'clock hour. "We are excited for this new start time in 2017!" read a release from the Becker County Transit Director Ryan Damlo. Riders can call 218-847-1674 to schedule their rides.

Winter's recent blast in our region has left behind slippery surfaces, blocked streets and walkways, and snow/ice making it hazardous for letter carriers to deliver mail and packages. Post Offices in the region are open. All available mail is sent out for delivery each day and carriers are doing their best to deliver where possible. Some delays may be unavoidable, but customers can help. "To allow us to provide the best service possible, we need a little help," said USPS Dakotas District Manager Doug Stephens.

Friday, Dec. 23 At 11:44 a.m. a caller reported extension cords had been stolen from the 30000 block of Highway 10. At 1:23 p.m.a male and female with a small child walked out of the Country Kitchen without paying their tab. At 10 p.m. someone's green card and passport had been stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Meadow Lane in Detroit Lakes. Forty Associate Degree Nursing students were recognized during a pinning ceremony on the Detroit Lakes campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College on Dec. 9. Riley Braun, John Lettner and Stacia Heisler were the student speakers at the pinning, which is a tradition that marks the completion of a student's nursing education.
Detroit Lakes student Elizabeth Johnson has received a $500 Ignite Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Johnson is the child of Dan and Michelle Johnson, Detroit Lakes. The Freshman Ignite Scholarship awards $500 for the freshman year and requires a high school class rank in the top 50 percent and a score of 21-23 on the ACT exam. Minnesota State University Moorhead is a comprehensive regional university enrolling approximately 7,500 students.
Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., has named Tanisha Perlmutter of Audubon to its dean's list for academic excellence during the fall 2016 semester. Dean's list honors are accorded to Carthage students who achieve a 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 14 credit hours during a semester. The Carthage College campus, an 80-acre arboretum on the shore of Lake Michigan, is home to 150 scholars, 2,600 full-time students, and 400 part-time students.
The Callaway Volunteer Fire Department has earned statewide recognition for its response to a March 2016 train and propane tanker truck collision that caused extensive damage in the community of Callaway but no fatalities. The 21 members of the community fire department received the Emergency Management Best Practice Award for Response during the 56th annual conference of the Association of Minnesota Emergency Managers in Breezy Point on Sept. 18-21.
