An Audubon woman was sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge Tuesday. District Judge Thomas Schroeder stayed imposition of a prison sentence against Sherry LeBeau, 21, for offering a forged check. LeBeau must serve 30 days in jail with credit for time served, was fined $1,085 and was placed on supervised probation for up to five years. LeBeau attempted to purchased approximately $500 worth of items from a Detroit Lakes store on May 27, 2005, with a check on another person's bank account.
Minnesota North District Lutheran Women's Missionary League holds its 22nd biennial convention at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks June 11-13. About 400 women are expected to attend the convention, themed "JOY-Jesus Overflowing in You," Romans 15:13. The league is the official synodical women's organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Mission project grants totaling $125,000 have been paid during the last biennium.
The Shoreham Chapel, located between lakes Melissa and Sallie, will hold its first service of the season June 11. Kathie Brekke and the Apostle Blues Band will perform, officially launching the seasonal opening. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. Services continue throughout the summer until Aug. 27. This is the third year the Apostle Blues Band will open the chapel.
Becker County and eight other counties have been approved for federal disaster funds. The decision was announced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Tuesday. Federal funds are now available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work, repair and replacement of facilities damaged by flooding between March 30 and May 3. Becker County had some road damage caused by the sudden snowmelt in early April. The other counties are Clay, Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Polk, Red Lake, Roseau and Wilkin.
A Ponsford man had his first appearance in Becker County District Court on three charges Tuesday. District Judge Thomas Schroeder set bond at $14,000 against Leslie Heinonen, 48.
