Dec. 20, 1919-Feb. 27, 2011 Peter Claude Cullen, 91, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Mesa, Ariz. A funeral mass will be held at St Ann's Catholic Church in Goodridge, Minn., at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011. Interment will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery. Peter was born December 20, 1919, in Moylan Township, rural Goodridge, the son of James and Margaret (Pittman) Cullen. He married Helen Bruneau on May 8, 1946.
Feb. 6, 1944-June 25, 2011 Former Detroit Lakes resident Frederick J. "Fred" Egan, 67, of West Fargo, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with Monsignor Tim McGee celebrating the Mass.
Jan. 26, 1926-June 24, 2011 LeRoy Laverne Stensgard, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. LeRoy was born to Theodore C. and Clara L. (Olson) Stensgard on January 26, 1926 in Fargo. Leroy moved with his parents to the family farm in rural Pelican Rapids in 1932, and attended country school in District No. 1. He enlisted in the United States Army in March of 1944 and served until September of 1946. After his military service, LeRoy worked in California for a short time before returning to Detroit Lakes in 1948.
Dec. 29, 1932-June 17, 2011 Marlys A. Thompson, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, after a short battle with cancer. Marlys Agatha Thompson was born to Hugh M. and Edna I. "Irene" (Hanson) Long on December 29, 1932 in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and received her education in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1950. She then worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at the Blanding's Dept. Store in Detroit Lakes. It was there that she would meet her future husband, Duane Thompson.
A celebration of the life of Claudia (Herringer) Wayne will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at the Herringer home on Lake Maud. Claudia was born on November 10, 1951 in Moorhead. She lived in Geneva, Minn., with her husband and daughters. She passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at St.
Oct. 26, 1928-June 19, 2011 Clyde "Dick" Lund Jr., 82, of Frazee, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Dick was born to Clyde and Dagny (Selvaag) Lund on October 26, 1928 in Brainerd. He attended elementary school in Ogema, and graduated from Waubun High School with the class of 1947. He then attended North Dakota State University and Moorhead State University. In January of 1951 he left for Camp Rucker in Alabama, where he served in the Army's 136th Infantry during the Korean War.
Sept. 8, 1933-June 19, 2011 Gordon L. Johnson, 77, of Callaway, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Callaway, with Reverend Del Stohs officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 24, and attend a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held for Paul J. Olson of Lake Park at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 in the Eksjo Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lake Park. There will be a luncheon served at Eksjo Lutheran Church following the service. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Paul Olson died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in Sanford Health, Fargo, at age 87. Funeral services were held Monday, March 7 at Eksjo Lutheran Church. Wright Funeral Home in Lake Park was entrusted with arrangements. Aug. 7, 1939-June 13, 2011 Eli Arnie Niemi, 71, of Osage, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at his home with his loved ones caring for him. The Hospice of the Red River Valley gave the family moral and medical support during his time of need. Eli was born Aug. 7, 1939 to Evalt and Tekla (Yoki) Niemi near Snellman. He attended country school in Carsonville and Toad Lake Townships and went on to attend Frazee High School. He was united in marriage to Diane L. Patchin June 21, 1959. This union was blessed with three children, Cheryl, Terry and Brian. They lived in Chicago, Ill.
Jan. 9, 1952-May 25, 2011 Command Master Chief James D. Fairbanks, 59, of Gulfport, Miss., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in Mobile, Ala. Born to Thomas and Marie Fairbanks on January 9, 1952, he grew up in the Pine Point area of the White Earth Reservation. After graduating from Park Rapids High School in 1970, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in November of that year and completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif. He was then assigned to Ordnance School in Quantico, Va.
