A felony complaint was filed against a Dent man in Becker County District Court Thursday. Ricky Green, 34, of 302 Dat Street, is accused of issuance of dishonored checks, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. His first court appearance is May 22. According to the court complaint, Green allegedly issued dishonored checks between Oct. 25, 2005 and Feb. 4, 2006, on the bank account of The Becker Sports Grille. The checks totaled $4,405.
Friday, May 5 at 9:19 a.m., two chainsaws were reported stolen from a rural Waubun trailer. at 6:51 p.m., a Detroit Lakes woman reported being threatened. at 10:57 p.m., a Detroit Lakes woman was arrested for disorderly conduct for an incident at a Detroit Lakes bar. at 11:57 p.m., a Detroit Lakes grocery store shoplifter fought with officers who tried to arrest him. The man was also wanted on a Wright County warrant. Saturday, May 6 at 11:40 a.m., a pickup gas tank was reported stolen.
Students are being robbed of a proper education each and every day. I do not believe that all of the problem lies in the government funding as many do believe. I think that a lot of the blame needs to be put on our educators. Not all of our educators, but some. Maybe there needs to be higher standards that need to be met before a teaching license may be acquired. Teachers make passing their classes much to easy. One reason for this is that testing has been made into a joke.

Stadium construction proposals worth $1.2 billion Minnesota Senate won votes Tuesday, but don't plan any tailgating parties at new stadiums just yet. In a mostly partisan debate, senators approved building a University of Minnesota football stadium on campus, then passed a second bill authorizing new a Twins ballpark and Vikings stadium. Each bill passed 34-32; Democrats mostly favored it, with Republicans against. The two sides didn't agree on how the votes affect the future of stadium legislation. Speak Easy Restaurant is hosting a "Tip-A-Cop" event to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota. As part of Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising groups for the Special Olympics, local police officers and other criminal justice professionals will partner with restaurant staff to serve patrons during this event. Officers will collect tips for Special Olympics Minnesota from guests who wish to contribute to this annual statewide fundraising event. Deep divisions over abortions delayed part of the Minnesota Senate's budget. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party senators could not produce enough votes to turn back a proposal to ban all state-funded abortions Monday night, so the party's leaders pulled the health and human services budget provisions until they can round up enough votes to pass it.
On Monday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins a $37 million project to improve safety and mobility along the Highway 10 Corridor. This is a joint effort with the City of Detroit Lakes and the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad. The project is located in the City of Detroit Lakes. It is broken into four major phases covering the next four construction seasons.
It was a simple ceremony involving an equally simple, but attractive monument. But the reason for the dedication at Hamden Slough National Wildlife Refuge May 6 was anything but simple. Nineteen individuals and the Cormorant Lakes Sportsmen's Club were honored by Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for their extensive involvement with the refuge. A pre-cast monument overlooking Homstad Lake was unveiled during Saturday's ceremony.
