Nov. 25, 1929-March 25, 2011 Elorius "Lorey" (Fuhs) Commers, 81, died March 25, 2011 at her home in Plymouth, Minn., on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. We will miss our loving wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend who passed away surrounded by her family and much love. Lorey will always be remembered for her warmth, her sense of humor, and her joyful spirit. Born on November 25, 1929 in St. Paul, Lorey met life with grace and an open heart, and she is now at peace and celebrating with Jesus.
June 12, 1958-March 27, 2011 Teresa Ida Klegin, 52, of Frazee, arrived home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 27, 2011. She passed away at Sanford Health in Fargo, with her family by her side. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, near Vergas. Lunch will be hosted at the church following the service for all to attend.
Oct. 2, 1948-March 26, 2011 Martin A. Kunz, 62, of Ogema, died of natural causes on Saturday, March 26, 2011 while working at Winter Farms in rural Callaway. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. It will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., in Assumption Catholic Church, Callaway, with Father Xavier Ilango officiating. Burial will be in St.
Former Mahnomen resident Agnes Becker, 85, of Frazee, died Tuesday, March 22 in the Frazee Care Center. Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, March 26 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mahnomen. Arrangements were provided by Jones-Pearson Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
Dec. 16, 1947-March 22, 2011 Erling P. Hill Jr., 63, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Erling was born the son of Erling and Marcella (Nyeggen) Hill Sr., on December 16, 1947 in St. Paul, Minn. In 1974, Erling moved to Detroit Lakes and has resided at Lakes Homes West.
Jan. 15, 1932-March 24, 2011 Former Grafton, N.D., resident Janyce A. Johnson Haugen, 79, of Audubon and Fargo, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. Janyce Ardell Bjorg was born to Syvert and Greta (Jacobson) Bjorg on January 15, 1932 in Adams, N.D. Janyce lived on a farm and attended school in Adams for all 12 grades, graduating in 1950. She then attended Moorhead State College, where she earned her teaching degree. She taught in Portland, N.D. and later in Grafton, N.D. Janyce Bjorg and Lyle M. Johnson were united in marriage on June 4, 1955.
Oct. 10, 1943-March 20, 2011 Thomas Michael Lynch, 67, was still marching to his own drummer right up until he died on Monday, March 21, 2011. Tom (aka "Mule") was the son of Homer and Lois Lynch of Detroit Lakes. He went to Detroit Lakes High School and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. After graduation, he attended UND and Moorhead State, and was a member of the winning-est basketball team in MSU history in 1966, the year he graduated. Then, it was off to Alaska, where he taught shop on the Aleutian Island of Adak, and for a second year in Fairbanks.
Feb. 10, 1933-March 22, 2011 Marlys L. Nelson, 78, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at her home, in the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Marlys was born to Louie and Ovedia Olson on February 10, 1933, on their home farm at Cormorant. She attended school at Oak Grove Lutheran School and Lake Park School. Marlys married Arvid Nelson on September 10, 1952, settled down, farmed and started a family. She was employed over the years by Carl's Lefse and Sunnyside Nursing Home.
March 7, 1917-March 23, 2011 Isabelle I. Halverson, 94, of Audubon died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Essentia Health - Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Isabelle Irene Halverson was born to Adolph and Mathilda (Johnson) Hendrickson on March 7, 1917 in rural Audubon. She attended country school as a young girl. On November 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to Kittrege Halverson. They farmed and raised their family on a dairy farm near Audubon. Isabelle also worked at Halvorson's Home Bakery in Detroit Lakes, which was owned and operated by her mother-in-law.
July 7, 1925-Feb. 24, 2011 Raymond Harold Hovland, 85, of Detroit Lakes, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2011, after a short illness. Ray was born to John and Mabel (Hove) Hovland on July 7, 1925 in rural Erskine, Minn. He was raised and educated in the Erskine area, until being drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1943. He flew 34 combat missions on a B-24 Liberator bomber, until the end of World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with three oak clusters for valor. After returning to the United States, Ray enrolled in and graduated from Dunwoody Institute.
