Jan. 31, 1916-Feb. 5, 2012 Former Big Toad Lake resident Doris W. Eastman, retired women's section editor of the Fargo Forum in Fargo, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in Huntington Beach, Calif., of Alzheimer's-related illness. She was 96. Doris was born to Henry B. and Arvilla Winne on January 31, 1916, in Alexander, N.D. She grew up Williston, Minot and Bowman, N.D. Upon graduation from Fargo Central High School in 1934, she went to work at the Moorhead Daily News, writing stories for the society section. There she met Edward Eastman, who was the city editor.
Gloria "Rita" Goble, 82, of Waubun, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Waubun. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen. It will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. Interment will take place at the Ogema City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.
March 14, 1944-Feb. 6, 2012 Diane Bien Rennie was born to Oscar and Dorothea (Schultz) Bien on March 14, 1944 in Britton, S.D. She died on Monday, February 6, 2012, at age 67, in her home in Ironton, Mo. Diane grew up in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1962. Diane and Charles (Dan) Rennie were married in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 17, 1985.
April 5, 1928-Feb. 11, 2012 Betty Ann Kahle, 83, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Golden Manor Memory Care in Detroit Lakes. Betty Ann Kahle was born to Oscar and Mabel (Eilertson) Lien on April 5, 1928 in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and received her education in Detroit Lakes. On February 9, 1952 Betty was united in marriage to LeRoy Kahle at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where together they owned and operated Kahle's Plumbing.
Dec. 7, 1932-Feb. 11, 2012 Grant W. Lage, 79, of Audubon, died Saturday Feb. 11, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Grant Walter Lage was born to Walter and DeEldra (Grant) Lage on December 7, 1932 in Everly, Iowa. He attended school in Moneta, Iowa, graduating from Moneta High School in 1950. He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On April 4, 1954 Grant was united in marriage to Lillian Ebel in Germantown, Iowa. They made their home in Spencer, Iowa, where Grant worked as a carpenter. In 1957 they moved to rural Audubon.
Dec. 11, 1925-Feb. 10, 2012 Marilyn Joyce Sieling, 86, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Oak Crossing Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for nearly 10 years. Visitation took place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, followed with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, with Rev. David C. Thompson officiating.
July 11, 1927-Feb. 10, 2012 LeRoy H. "Fox" DelMain, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at The Cottages at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes. LeRoy H. DelMain, being the fourth child of six belonging to Oliver and Emma (Ernest) DelMain, was born on July 11, 1927 in Frazee. LeRoy attended school in Frazee, and left high school as a junior to enter the United States Navy in 1944. He served as a fireman on a minesweeper in the Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Sept. 13, 1926-Jan. 2, 2012 June Elizabeth Vanderplaats, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 85, of Frazee, was gently taken home to heaven on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Minneapolis, peacefully surrounded by her family. June was born to Raymond and Gladys (Erickson) Kirkevold on September 13, 1926, in Fargo. She was one of nine children. She married Peter George Vanderplaats on April 13, 1950, and they were blessed with two daughters, Julie and Paula. They had been married 43 years when her husband passed away in 1993.
July 23, 1920-Feb. 4, 2012 Valerius "Val" Caspers, 91, of Ogema, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, surrounded by his loving family. Valerius Louis Caspers, the son of Lawrence and Margareth (Tresveik) Caspers, was born on July 23, 1920 at their home near Ogema. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Waubun High School in 1938. In 1944, Val entered the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country during World War II.
Feb. 19, 1924-Feb. 7, 2012 James M. Walz, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m., in Holy Rosary Church, Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass on Saturday at the church. The mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
