April 15, 1938-Feb. 20, 2012 Donald "Don" John Engelke, 73, of White Earth, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Cheryl, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial sevice will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24, at the Ogema Community Center, with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Twin Valley, in the spring of 2012. David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sept. 8, 1939-Feb. 21, 2012 Rita E. Coalwell, 72, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at her residence, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Rita Elizabeth Coalwell was born to Leo and Josephine (Gamroth) Marsolek on September 8, 1939 in Little Falls, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Little Falls, graduating from Little Falls High School in 1958. Following high school, Rita attended nursing school in Brainerd. She moved to California, where she briefly worked as a nurse. She later returned to Little Falls and was united in marriage to Robert A.
Jan. 17, 1925-Feb. 18, 2012 Doris M. Kegel, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Funeral services for Doris will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Doris Marie Herman was born to Beryl and Essie (Harman) Herman on January 17, 1925 in Bantry, N.D. She was raised and educated in Towner, ND graduating from Towner High School. Following high school, Doris attended Dakota Business College in Fargo.
Aug. 18, 1913-Feb. 17, 2012 Dorothy K. Bratlie, 98, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 17, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes. Dorothy was born the daughter of Andrew and Dina (Ekern) Dahlen on August 18, 1913 in Detroit Lakes. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes, graduating from high school in 1930. After high school Dorothy attended Detroit Lakes Teacher Training for one year and then started her teaching career in rural Becker County in District #19.
Sept. 12, 1950-Feb. 17, 2012 Patricia Ann (Borah) Kind was taken suddenly but peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2012 in Everett, Wash. Patricia was born to Wesley and Alice (Pederson) Borah on September 12, 1950, in Detroit Lakes. She was married to LeeRoy Kind on December 16, 1972. Her son Adam was the joy of her life. Often she would tell others what a fine young man he had become. She was well loved by all of her friends and family, who gave her the title of "the Roca Queen" for her famous Almond Roca that she made every Christmas.
Eleanor Christiansen, 84, of the Ponsford/Park Rapids area, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids with Revs. Marty Giese and David Cripe officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, continuing for one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
Former Lake Park resident Donald Braseth Sr., 68, of Otsego, Minn., passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Surviving Donald are his former wife, Leanne and sons Donie Jr. and Darrin Braseth, all of Otsego; family pet, Floyd; brother, Benneth (Susie) Braseth; sisters, Elda (Cariton) St.
Dec. 5, 1924-Feb. 8, 2012 James "Jim" Horack, 87, of Ogema, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Jim was born the son of Frank and Katherine (Stech) Horack on December 5, 1924. He attended grade school at the Horack School, near McCrany Lake, rural Waubun. Jim furthered his education at Waubun public schools. Following his schooling, Jim entered the United States Navy in June of 1943. He served mainly in the South Pacific until his honorable discharge in January of 1946.
Jan. 30, 1913-Feb. 16, 2012 Roy W. Mosher, 99, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Roy was born the son of John and Agnes (Wilson) Mosher on January 30, 1913 in LeRay Township of Blue Earth County, Minn. He was raised and educated in Eagle Lake, Minn. As a young man he worked on the family farm and was a salesman for Jacob's Wind Electric Company. Roy was united in marriage to Mabel Lusty on November 20, 1939 in Mankato, Minn. They made their home in Ogema.
Beatrice "Bea" Margaret Leiseth died peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, at 90 years of age, in the presence of her children and their families. Visitation for Bea will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her funeral will place at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, with burial in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
