May 20, 1912-Nov. 6, 2011 Mary Elizabeth Fingalson, 99, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mary was born to John and Ella (Lund) Wallace on May 20, 1912 in Candor Township, rural Vergas. She attended country school in District 121 near Vergas, and then she finished her schooling at Detroit Lakes High School. Mary was united in marriage to Alfred Fingalson on November 8, 1937 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Mary worked for Northwestern Bell for 34 years, retiring in 1974.
Sept. 7, 1939-Nov. 7, 2011 Former Fargo resident Margaret M. "Miggs" Anderson, 72, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Mark Kuether officiating.
Aug. 18, 1921-Nov. 8, 2011 Pastor Charles E. Nethercott, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Charles Nethercott was born to Wilfred and Carrie (Kelly) Nethercott on August 18, 1921 in Clear Creek, Ontario, Canada. He grew up on a dairy farm, the oldest of six children. He attended country school and worked on his father's farm. In 1939 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. In 1940 he enrolled as a student at Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta. In 1942 he joined the Army in Calgary, Alberta.
Feb. 2, 1938-Nov. 3, 2011 Former Frazee resident Neil P. Boutiette, 73, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Mass of Christian burial took place at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, with Father Xavier Ilango officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation and prayer services were held Sunday, Nov.
June 9, 1916-Nov. 1, 2011 Vera Grones, 95, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family and in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A mass of Christian burial is set for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the start of services at the church. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Vera Arboe was born to Osborne and Emma (Jensen) Arboe on June 9, 1916 in Copenhagen, Denmark. As a toddler she moved to the United States to be with her family.
Sept. 17, 1949-Oct. 31, 2011 Barbara L. Allen was born to Elbridge and Erma (Johnson) Allen on September 17, 1949 in Brainerd. She grew up, attended school and graduated from Brainerd. Barb then completed her LPN training and began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd. On April 17, 1971 Barbara was united in marriage to Allen Korinta. Allen served with the U.S. Army and they were stationed in various places in the U.S. and overseas. Much of their time was spent in Western Europe.
Russell E. "Russ" Vikesland, 82, of Frazee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at his home in Frazee, with his family at his side, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and prayer service to immediately follow. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the funeral mass, which is set for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Nov. 27, 1948-Oct. 29, 2011 Former Rugby and Bottineau, N.D., resident Eugene Haakenson, 62, of Audubon, died Saturday, October 29, 2011 from complications of a stroke in a Fargo hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery, also in Bottineau. Gene, a son of Arne and Mabel (Kofioid) Haakenson, was born the youngest of seven children on November 27, 1948 in Bottineau, N.D.
Oct. 19, 1945-Oct. 25, 2011 Former Detroit Lakes resident Francoise Fechtner, 66, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in St. Paul. Born on October 19, 1945 in Nancy, France, Francoise grew up in Detroit Lakes before moving to the Twin Cities, where she lived and worked for most of her adult life. Francoise enjoyed traveling and gardening; she believed that Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savior; salvation is a free gift; God created heaven and earth, and evolution is a lie. A graveside service and burial for Francoise will be held this Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
Jim Hoghaug was born Aug. 9, 1933 in Detroit Lakes. Jim is survived by his 2 brothers Jon and George; Sister Jean; son George and two grandsons Thomas and Myron; his wife Georgia of 55 years on November 9th,. Jim graduated from University of Minnesota in 1960, and then entered Army Security Agency to become a Polish interpreter. Jim married Georgia (May) Hoghaug in Fargo in 1956. Jim and Georgia moved to kassel Germany after college for a year so Jim could work with the Army Security Agency.
