Nov. 11, 1934-March 24, 2006 Dorothy M. Moline, 72, of St. Cloud, Minn., died unexpectedly while on vacation in Arizona on Friday, March 24, 2006. Dorothy was born to Henry and Lena (Vanderwahl) Roerig on Nov. 11, 1934 in Maple Lake, Minn. She was the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. Dorothy married John Moline on Aug. 9, 1958 in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Independence, Iowa, and from 1970-78, in Detroit Lakes. They moved to St. Cloud, Minn., in 1981.
July 15, 1925-April 13, 2006 Robert Wood, 80, of Warren, Minn., died Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren. Robert Duane "Bob" Wood was born to Robert A. and Augusta (Nelson) Wood on July 15, 1925 in Warren. He attended grade school in Brislet Township south of Warren, and attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, Minn. Bob operated the family farm near Warren until retiring in 1982. He married Carlene Aarnes in 1963 and in 1980. Bob loved farming and the "hunting place" in Carp, Minn. (near Baudette).
May 6, 1936-April 14, 2006 Jack R. McDougall, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, April 14, 2006 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Jack R. McDougall was born to Dudley J. and Angeline (Blair) McDougall on May 6, 1936 in White Earth. He was raised and educated in the area, attending St. Benedict's Mission School and White Earth Public School. He later attended welding school in California and jewelry school in Minneapolis. Jack married Dorothy Power on June 11, 1961 in Detroit Lakes.
Jan. 14, 1916-April 14, 2006 Lucille "Lucy" Lia, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, April 14, 2006 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Lucille Clara Bowers was born to Charles and Jeanet (Galloway) Bowers on Jan. 14, 1916 at the family homestead by Pelican Lake, near Detroit Lakes. The family moved to Detroit Lakes when Lucy was three. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1933. Lucy married Iver John Lia on March 21, 1935 in Detroit Lakes. After raising her children, Lucy was employed at Blandings, Lindruds, Woolworths, St.
Jan. 26, 1905-April 15, 2006 Myrtle J. Paulson, 101, of rural Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at her residence. Myrtle J. Paulson was born to Paul and Mary (Olson) Paulson on Jan. 26, 1905 in rural Detroit Lakes. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1922. Following graduation from high school, Myrtle took a nine-month course in teaching at Detroit Lakes, and began teaching in 1923. Her first assignment was at a country school north of Detroit Lakes, in District 98. As a country schoolteacher, Myrtle would board with a family in the district and walk to school each day.
Aug. 22, 1939-April 1, 2006 Arlene C. Nunn, 66, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn in Scottsdale, Ariz. Arlene Carol Anderson was born to Durward Peder and Amanda Gamine (Nerison) Anderson on Aug. 22, 1939 in Minneapolis, where she lived and attended high school. She later attended Gustavus Adolphus Collage in St. Peter, Minn., and the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Arlene married David Charles Miller in 1960 and Warren Alfred Nunn in 1981.
July 24, 1936-April 14, 2006 Fargo native Jerry Alan Walter, 69, of Joppa, Texas, died suddenly on Friday, April 14, 2006. Jerry was born July 24, 1936 in Fargo, North Dakota. He has lived in Texas since 1985. Jerry was a man of selflessness, humility, and service. He always encouraged and supported those around him. He loved God. He loved his wife. He loved his family. And he served unceasingly, with joy.
March 13, 1952-April 16, 2006 James A. Mulcahy, 54, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes. James Allan Mulcahy was born to Everett and Arlene (Krauth) Mulcahy on March 13, 1952 in Moorhead. He spent his early years in Barnesville, Minn., and moved with his family to Rollag in 1959. They moved to Audubon in 1961. Jim graduated from Audubon High School in 1970. He married Shelley Haukedahl on June 13, 1970 in Lake Park. They lived in Audubon, where he was the service manager for Haukedahl Trucking.
April 15, 1945-April 3, 2006 Detroit Lakes native Lois Berndt, 60, of Minnetonka, Minn., died Monday, April 3, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer. Lois was born on April 15, 1945, to William and Clara Anderson in Detroit Lakes. She was raised near Frazee, Minnesota, and graduated with the class of 1963.
Cheers to the White Earth Election Board for the classy way it handled an unusual primary election and even more unusual recount.
