According to the National Institutes of Health, tension headaches -- characterized by pain or discomfort in the head, scalp, or neck, usually associated with muscle tightness in these areas -- are one of the most common forms of headache. Symptoms include dull pressure in the head which is worse in the scalp, temples or back of the neck and is not one-sided. Tension headaches often feel like a tight band or vise on the head and are often triggered by stress, fatigue, noise or glare.
Aug. 20, 1915-April 9, 2006 Robert E. "Bob" Krenelka, 90, of Staples, Minn., passed away at the Lakewood Health Care Center on Sunday evening, April 9, 2006. Robert was born to Alden A. and Ella (Christensen) Krenelka on Aug. 20, 1915 in Hitterdal, MN. He attended school at Hitterdal, graduating from high school in 1933. At the time of his graduation, the Depression was in full swing in the United States, and jobs were hard to come by, so he ended up taking odd jobs as they became available, mostly in the area of farm labor.

Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer has announced the availability of free online congressional, state house, and state senate district maps, as well as statewide maps showing districts, at ../home/index.asp? page=462. "This is the first time that we've been able to offer such good, detailed maps free for download and printing from your own computer," explained Kiffmeyer. "We're very pleased to be able to offer these maps for free.
March 15, 1922-April 10, 2006 Violet Olson, 84, of Hawley, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, Minn. Violet was born to Arthur and Helma (Langness) Jellum on March 15, 1922, in Hamden Township, Becker County, where she grew up and attended rural school. Violet married Orville Olson on Dec. 5, 1945 at Lake Park. Following their marriage, they farmed south of Hawley, in Eglon Township. They moved to Hawley in 1972. Violet worked at the turkey plant in Detroit Lakes for two years.

And lest you think, "that sort of thing doesn't happen here," statistics from the Lakes Crisis & Resource Center LCRC in Detroit Lakes show that there were 123 determinations of child abuse in Becker County during 2004. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and in order to enhance awareness, LCRC sponsored a countywide poster contest.
Prairie Public Television's newest local documentary project is a historical retrospective of the development of what we now know as Interstate 94. The non-profit network is asking the public to play a role in the production, titled "The Red Trail," by contributing historical photos and film footage. Any memories that show life along what started as the "The Red Trail" and eventually evolved into Highway 10 and Interstate 94 are welcome.

House Republicans want to mail tax rebate checks to more than 1 million Minnesotans, a plan Democrats call an election-year gimmick. Homeowners would receive checks worth 10 percent of their property tax bills, making the average check $205. They would arrive by Oct. 1, two weeks before most property tax payments are due.
