Oct. 10, 1910-Nov. 4, 2010 Elsie Aleda Nelson, 100, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Elsie was born in Nornnagen, Sweden. She came to America at the age of four, with her two-year-old sister, Ericka and her mother, Hulda Moller. Elsie's mother Hulda married John Thunstrom. Elsie and her sister were raised as Thunstroms. Elsie was educated in District 57 and District 28. She was confirmed at Bakke Lutheran Church in 1927. She was united in marriage to Noah Nelson in July of 1934. Noah died in 1959.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Marie Sims, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Peterson Funeral Home in Morris, Minn., with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
Barbara Pikula, 64, of Butler, Minn., passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Visitation is set from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Butler, continuing for one hour prior to services on Tuesday. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Arrangements are being provided by Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.
April 17, 1952-Nov. 4, 2010 James F. Worm, better known as J.W., died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 4, 2010, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. James was born the second son of Dr. George and Ruth Worm on April 17, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wis. He grew up and went to school in Wauwatosa, Wis. In his early adult life, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Milwaukee, driving ambulances. Working with state and national associations, he was instrumental in establishing the accreditation standards in this field.
Jan. 13, 1934-Nov. 2, 2010 James R. Gilbert, 76, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010, after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's. A mass of Christian burial is set for noon Saturday, Nov. 6, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. James Russell Gilbert was born to Charles and Violet Gilbert on January 13, 1934, in Hettinger, N.D. He was raised in New England, N.D., and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years. On April 8, 1960, Jim married the love of his life, Bette Lindner.
Carroll F. Kluck, 75, of Lake Park, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, followed by the memorial service at 10:30, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead. Burial will be at North Buffalo Lutheran Church, Kragnes, Minn.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Virginia Marie Disse, 74, of Ada, Minn., died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Bridges Care Community in Ada. A mass of Christian burial is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being provided by Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada.
Richard H. Thompson, 39, of rural Ogema, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Naytahwaush. Friends may call from 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 until 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth, with Mother Lisa Smith officiating. Interment will be in St. Columba Cemetery. The David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, is serving the family.
July 16, 1928-Oct. 29, 2010 Einar G. Rebne, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and his dog, Snoops, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Einar was born to Andrew and Gertie (Brolin) Rebne on July 16, 1928 in Lignite, N.D. At the age of three he moved with his family to farm in the Powers Lake and Battleview area. A few years later they moved to McGregor and later to Columbus, N.D., where Einar's dad was a blacksmith.
Dec. 11, 1983-Oct. 26, 2010 Jeremy D. Matter, 26, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Twin Valley. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. A mass of Christian burial for Jeremy is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with interment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Callaway. Jeremy Dean Matter was born to Joel and Lorie (Boucher) Matter on December 11, 1983 in Detroit Lakes. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes.
