Ronald "Ron" Strand, 77, of Mission, Texas, died Monday, December 8, 2011 in a McAllen, Texas hospital. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. this Saturday, July 21 in Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park.
Former Detroit Lakes resident Laura M. (Wiegand) Pederson, 86, of Delano, Minn., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Audubon, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Laura will be deeply missed by her children, Lynn (Donald) Flett, Rodney (Kathy) Lezer, Gail Marks, Colleen (Joel) St.
May 9, 1935-June 28, 2012 Richard ("Rick'") Christian Schmoll, 77, passed away at home in Montana on Thursday, June 28, 2012. Born to Christian Frederick and Evelyn Luella (Story) Schmoll on May 9, 1935 in Popple Grove, Minn., Rick was the third of four children, and the only boy. As a young boy, Rick helped to work the family farm, and this was the beginning of his lifelong dedication to hard work and self-reliance. He moved to Montana in his teens, and he considered it home for the rest of his life, no matter where else he had to live to find work.
May 2, 1930-July 6, 2012 Fern Andersen, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Fern was born the daughter of Mortimer and Hazel (Swetland) Earley on May 2, 1930, in rural Otter Tail County. Shortly after graduating from Detroit Lakes High School, she started her career with Becker County Social Services. Fern was united in marriage to Robert Andersen on November 6, 1969 in Barnesville. They made their home in Crookston. Fern worked for Polk County Social Services for many years, until her retirement.
April 21, 1918-July 7, 2012 Eugene Joseph "Gene" Clark, Sr., was born to Michael and Alice (Heisler) Clark on April 21, 1918 in White Earth. He was raised at the ranch on Rat Lake and attended Kay's Corner School. As a young man, Gene worked at a CCC Camp and for farmers in the Glyndon-Felton area. On March 19, 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on August 9, 1945. Following his discharge, Gene was united in marriage to Catherine McArthur on May 16, 1946 in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services will be held for Carol Baune, 75, of Detroit Lakes, at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 in Trinity Lutheran Church, New York Mills, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.
Georgia Lynn Rogers, 42, of Minneapolis, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at her residence. Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford. The David-Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sept. 6, 1933-July 9, 2012 Arlene A. Pribbenow, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Arlene Ann Pribbenow was born to Francis and Mary (Meader) Magloughlin on September 6, 1933 in Dilworth. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Dilworth High School. She then attended the Detroit Lakes Vocational and Technical College, where she studied nursing. Arlene lived and raised her family in Alaska for 12 years before moving back to Minnesota. They lived in Barnesville for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1977.
Oct. 13, 1923-July 7, 2012 Dennis James Peterson, 88, of Audubon, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial service for Dennis will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 in First Lutheran Church, Audubon, with Pastor Gary Garvey officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, at the new location of David-Donehower Funeral Home, 609 Hwy. 10 E., Detroit Lakes. Military honors will be provided by the Audubon VFW Post.
July 28, 1917-July 8, 2012 Silvy A. Horken, 94, of Detroit Lakes, passed peacefully from here to heaven on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at The Cottages in Detroit Lakes. Silvy was born the daughter of Gust and Agnes (Rolland) Hansen on July 28, 1917 and raised in Thief River Falls. She married Cliff Horken in her parents' parlor in 1941. Silvy and her late husband, Cliff were married 62 years. She and Cliff moved 25 times to follow his career. They lived their last years together in Prescott, Wis. Silvy moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for three years and then to Detroit Lakes.
