Nov. 1, 1962-Feb. 21, 2013 Cheryl J. Brown, 50, of Detroit Lakes, was taken home by her heavenly Father on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo following a courageous battle with cancer. A gathering of friends and family took place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David Donehower Funeral Home. A Memorial Service for Cheryl will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2 in Snapps-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson, Mo.
July 17, 1946-Feb. 22, 2013 Milton D. Nelson, 66, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids. Milton David Nelson was born to Melvin and Nellie (Larson) Nelson on July 17, 1946 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up and received his education in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1964. In high school he competed and excelled on the wrestling team. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
Feb. 7, 1951-Feb. 20, 2013 Karen Marie Kittelson, 62, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. Karen was born the daughter of Milton and Phyllis (Steffen) Totland on February 7, 1951 in Detroit Lakes. She grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1969. After high school she attended Moorhead State University and graduated in 1973 with a degree in elementary education. On August 18, 1973 Karen married Lee Kittelson at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.
Jan. 13, 1927-Feb. 18, 2013 Theresa L. Haney, 86, of Rochert, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Essentia Health-St.Mary's in Detroit Lakes. A mass of Christian burial for Theresa will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service and 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. It will continue for one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
July 12, 1922-Feb. 18, 2013 Lucille M. Boyer, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at her residence, surrounded by family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lu Boyer will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services. Lu was born the daughter of C. Ernest and Anita (Hunsley) Aull on July 12, 1922.
Henry Horack, 85, of Waubun, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, in St. Ann's Church in Waubun. Visitation will be held at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, with a prayer service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen ( www.andersonmattson.com ).
Feb. 25, 1931-Feb. 17, 2013 Bette Marie Swanson was born to Charlotte (Footer) Swanson on February 25, 1931 in Fargo. She was raised in Fargo and graduated from Central High School in 1949. Bette worked as a telephone operator at The Forum for a time. She was married to John Marks Jess, Jr., on December 20, 1952 in Fargo, and they lived in Cooperstown, N.D., and Goodridge, Minn., where John taught school. They returned to Fargo briefly before making their home in Moorhead in 1962. John died June 9, 2011, and Bette continued to reside in Moorhead.
May 12, 1935-Feb. 15, 2013 Ronald "Ron" Berglund, 77, of Moorhead, died on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo. Ronald Peter Burton Berglund was born to Alfred and Blanche (Strum) Berglund on May 12, 1935 in Moorhead. He grew up at Comstock, Minn., and upon his graduation the family moved to Moorhead. Ron married Cheryl Lien on July 17, 1954 in Fargo. They lived in the Fargo-West Fargo area, as well as Grand Forks, before settling in Detroit Lakes, where they lived for 30 years. In 2007, they moved to Moorhead.
Linda L. Crete, 61, of rural Callaway, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at her home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A private family service will be held at a later date. May 8, 1919 - Feb. 3, 2013 The funeral service for Dorothy Busker was held Thursday, Feb. 7 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Dorothy Irvena Busker, 93, passed away Sunday February 3, 2013, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, with her children at her side. Dorothy was born to William and Minnie (Preuss) Macklanburg on May 8, 1919 in Echo, Minn., where she grew up on the family farm. There she met her husband, Anton Henry "Tony" Busker, and they were married Feb. 11, 1935 in Otter Tail County. Dorothy and her family moved to Wadena in 1945.
