Dec. 7, 1932-Feb. 11, 2012 Grant W. Lage, 79, of Audubon, died Saturday Feb. 11, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Grant Walter Lage was born to Walter and DeEldra (Grant) Lage on December 7, 1932 in Everly, Iowa. He attended school in Moneta, Iowa, graduating from Moneta High School in 1950. He then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On April 4, 1954 Grant was united in marriage to Lillian Ebel in Germantown, Iowa. They made their home in Spencer, Iowa, where Grant worked as a carpenter. In 1957 they moved to rural Audubon.
Dec. 11, 1925-Feb. 10, 2012 Marilyn Joyce Sieling, 86, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Oak Crossing Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for nearly 10 years. Visitation took place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, followed with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, with Rev. David C. Thompson officiating.
July 11, 1927-Feb. 10, 2012 LeRoy H. "Fox" DelMain, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at The Cottages at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes. LeRoy H. DelMain, being the fourth child of six belonging to Oliver and Emma (Ernest) DelMain, was born on July 11, 1927 in Frazee. LeRoy attended school in Frazee, and left high school as a junior to enter the United States Navy in 1944. He served as a fireman on a minesweeper in the Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Sept. 13, 1926-Jan. 2, 2012 June Elizabeth Vanderplaats, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 85, of Frazee, was gently taken home to heaven on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Minneapolis, peacefully surrounded by her family. June was born to Raymond and Gladys (Erickson) Kirkevold on September 13, 1926, in Fargo. She was one of nine children. She married Peter George Vanderplaats on April 13, 1950, and they were blessed with two daughters, Julie and Paula. They had been married 43 years when her husband passed away in 1993.
July 23, 1920-Feb. 4, 2012 Valerius "Val" Caspers, 91, of Ogema, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, surrounded by his loving family. Valerius Louis Caspers, the son of Lawrence and Margareth (Tresveik) Caspers, was born on July 23, 1920 at their home near Ogema. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Waubun High School in 1938. In 1944, Val entered the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country during World War II.
Feb. 19, 1924-Feb. 7, 2012 James M. Walz, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m., in Holy Rosary Church, Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass on Saturday at the church. The mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
March 22, 1949-Jan. 28, 2012 Rebecca "Becky" Husby, 62, died peacefully at her home in Bloomington, Minn., on Saturday, January 28, 2012, after a year of battling colon cancer. Becky, the oldest child of Rolf and Betty Husby, was born on March 22, 1949 in Detroit Lakes. In 1967, she graduated from Detroit Lakes High School, where she was active as an excellent extemporaneous speaker and a member of the debate team. Becky continued those interests at Hamline University in St. Paul, where she graduated in 1971.
Dec. 12, 1947-Feb. 3, 2012 Dennis E. Presler, 64, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 3, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 in Zion Lutheran Church at Franklin Lake, rural Pelican Rapids, with Pastor Dale Pepelnjak and Intern Pastor Denise Fossen officiating.
June 28, 1917-Jan. 27, 2012 Verna I. Nelson was born June 28, 1917 in Dahlen, N.D., and died January 27, 2012 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Verna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Prior to moving to Arizona, she was an English teacher and an active member of her Lutheran church in Minnesota. Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her four children, Carole (Gene) Lothes, Joyce (Robert) Knodell, Linda (Jon) Schneider and David (Franky) Nelson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Vivian Kelly.
Former Mahnomen resident Duane Seeger, 87, of Wahpeton, N.D., died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge, Minn. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, with a 3 p.m. prayer service, at Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen. Interment was at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen.
