Jan. 27, 1944-Aug. 1, 2010 Donald E. Bristlin, 66, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at home, in the loving arms of his wife and family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, after a long courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of Don's life is set for 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9 at Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Eric Lemonholm officiating. There will be visitation at the church for two hours prior to services. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley, Minn.
March 20, 1976-July 31, 2010 Nicki L. Heisler, 34, of Ogema, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 31, 2010 at her residence in Ogema. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, continuing until the start of Friday's services, at the Cheryl Heisler residence near White Earth. The funeral is set for 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth, with interment at the St. Columba Church Cemetery. Nicki Lynn Heisler was born to Ken and Cheryl (Keezer) Heisler on March 20, 1976 in Minneapolis.
April 26, 1915-Aug. 2, 2010 Idella L. Lien, 95, of Lake Park, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. Idella Lucille Baumgard was born to Herman and Alma (Ihrke) Baumgard on April 26, 1915 in Brewster, Minn. Shortly after Idella was born, the family moved to Audubon, where she grew up and attended school. Idella graduated from Audubon High School in 1933. She married Stanley Lien on June 20, 1939, in Audubon. Together they farmed north of Lake Park until 1962, when they and their three children moved into Lake Park.
July 25, 1922-Aug. 1, 2010 Willard G. "Willie" Anderson, 88, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at The Cottage at Emmanuel Community. Willie Anderson was born to George and Lena (Swanberg) Anderson on July 25, 1922 in Blackduck, Minn. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Blackduck High School in 1940. In 1941 he signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played minor league baseball until he was drafted by the Army in 1943. He served in the 9th Infantry Division in France, Belgium, and Germany.
Nov. 19, 1933-July 29, 2010 Former Detroit Lakes resident William T. "Bill" Disse, 76, of New Zealand, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 in St. Louis Park, Minn., while visiting family and friends. Bill was born to Herbert "Bubs" and Myrtle Disse on November 19, 1933 in Detroit Lakes. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1951. He began his career with Northwestern Bell, before working and traveling around the United States. In 1965 he went to New Zealand, where he met and married Marcia Shepard.
George William Goodman, 51, of Ponsford, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Emmanuel Community Health Care Facility in Detroit Lakes. Services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford, with a vigil starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
July 15, 1921-July 30, 2010 Doris M. Norstad, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at her residence, under the care of hospice. Doris Ike was born to Ole and Minnie (Ranberg) Ike on July 15, 1921 in Plaza, N.D. She grew up on a ranch and attended school, graduating from Plaza High School. She then attended Minot State (N.D.) Teachers College, majoring in business. On October 4, 1947 she was united in marriage to Erling Norstad. They made their home in Fargo. Doris worked as a bookkeeper for 35 years.
Dec. 29, 1951-July 21, 2010 Former Frazee resident Kenneth Jerome "Kenny" Perrine, 58, of Spokane, Wash., went to be with the lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, under the care of Hospice House of Spokane. Kenny was born to Nathan and Florence Perrine on December 29, 1951 in Midland, Texas. He started his education at a small country school near Cotton Lake, later moving to Rugby, N.D., where he went to school for six years. Kenny and his family moved back to Frazee, where he attended high school. Kenny devoted his time as a caregiver for Kelly Services in Spokane.
Oct. 10, 1928-July 28, 2010 Rev. Harold A. Erickson, 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Crosby Care Center, with his family at his side. Pastor Harold was born to Alfred and Alma (Kjeldson) Erickson on October 10, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Minn. He served in the Marines during World War II, being stationed stateside. On June 26, 1959 he married Rosalyn (Rosie) Nelson at Powderhorn Park Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
Arthur L. "Art" Groth, 85, of Ogema, died Monday, July 26, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Nov. 19, 1924-July 26, 2010 Arthur L. "Art" Groth, 85, of Ogema, died Monday, July 26, 2010 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. Art Groth was born to Arthur and Alice (Somdahl) Groth on November 19, 1924 in Ogema. He grew up and attended country school in rural Ogema, later graduating from Waubun High School. He worked on the family farm for many years before working on a custom combine crew that harvested grain throughout the Midwest.
